I'm really surprised to hear that. Normally Hollywood doing a live-action adaptation of anime/manga tend to be sour but I haven't seen it and I can't say. Well maybe some people that complain about Hollywood wrecking live-action adaptation will be silent now because of this.

Maybe they are enjoying it ironically.

The Tomatometer is still at a zero, IMDB has a Rating of 4.3/10, the trailer looked like utter trash and critic i respect only hated it so i am not touching this movie.
The original (loli!) hentai has only one good action scene besides the quality animations so the entire franchise (did any of you get part 2?) is a waste of space. It´s even based on another even more morally abhorred (rape) porno so bye bye Kite to never meet again.
Hm i "like" the latest Wolf Guy manga ironically or Black Joke and can ever survive a few more Mad Bull volumes then most but i would never call them "good" or "recommendable".

Honestly, I didn't find it bad at all.

I knew it was going to deviate from the original (due to content), but I think in general it wasn't horrible. Trippy, but still pretty decent.

Is it bad that they're not saying that it's horrible? Because yes, they can like it too if they want, and there's no need to save face over it.

The hentai part is probably why a lot of people even bothered with Kite and Mezzo Forte in the first place back in the day. I haven't seen the live-action movie, but I'm going to assume they cut it out of that.

I wonder if they understood the English to enjoy it or if they watched it subbed.

I remember reading that making it hentai was the only way to get it produced back then.

When it was first released in the US, all the sex scenes were cut.

But it's not like it was necessary for the (very)simple storyline.

I've read that for the director to actually have it released, it had to porn. What a situation that would be.

Yes but he chose loli rape so he should also carry the weight. Dumb ova is dumb and the ending is no bueno too. Why are we talking about Kite again?

I finally got to see the live-action movie (got someone else watch it too) and it's probably one of the better live-action adaptations I've seen. Story is a little different but, like the comments say it works. The setting in South Africa is very good visually too. So not surprised other people think it has merits. I liked it.

Don't forget the villains raping various unnamed women throughout. (Blowjobs by a schoolgirl while on the phone.....ugh.)
