There appears to be a misunderstanding here by Variety, or perhaps the writer of this article was unable to verify independently.

GAGA is indeed entering anime production, but it is not Itazura na Kiss. Based on Japanese press reports, the film opening in fall is Itazura na Kiss Part 1: High School Hen, which is the film mentioned in this article.

That film is indeed produced by Asia Pictures Entertainment and is scheduled to open in theaters later this year. The director is Minoru Mizoguchi, as Variety also mentions.

Lookin forward to this because gonna be nice too see this with a new animation, i really wonder what part they gonna put into the movie from the anime or they might just put everything from it^^
Anyway its still probably to this day one of the best shoujo animes that i have seen, specialy because we get spoiler[in the middle of the season a marriage and on the end even a child of them, we simply dont get this type of animes this days, clannad was probably the closest thing to it with early marriage and child on the end although it was missing all the kiss scene etc still cant wrap my head around that <.< ]

Maybe it being incomplete is what inspires people to give it their own spin.
