Well this gives a perfectly good idea of Newtype's reader base. Also, Newtype does these rankings through the year, and personally I think it corresponds a lot with the most-featured anime in their magazine. That again depends on the companies who pay for their anime's promotion space and special features in this magazine.
When seen in context like this, I'm not too salty about the results. |

Newtype should have wrote that top consist only of kadokawa's published works. Still though, I think that F/A is terrible lore-wise and plot-wise - I would labeled it as worst anime of 2017 easily.
P.s. But I respect that they put Miyukichi on top-1. |

I'm glad that Fate/Apocrypha won award. For me this was best anime in last season. Good likable characters, good action (better than most fights in fate/stay night UBW even though the animation is worse)

Fate/Apocrypha being "good" let alone coming up on top is a good laugh for me. This and Sword Online shows what type of specific taste the readers of Newtype has.

We'll need our own Newtype poll to verify that statement! Then again, if ANN's polls and CR's rankings are any indication, the average gaijin's taste is just as awful

This year has been very good for both Fate and SAO so the poll results seem about right. Fate/Apocrypha is a great action show that in my opinion is second only to Fate Stay Night and for fans of the SAO franchise the movie was very good.

In certain blogs or forums New Type is rather infamous for ALWAYS putting SAO as a series or its characters in their top 10 lists regardless of the season or whats currently airing thats popular

I like how we're the ones consuming their media, and we're the ones judging their tastes. You'd think these shows we're tailored to them or something.
