Japanese girls are getting married later and later. She for example married at 34. I guess this helps to explain why their birth rate is falling.

It's certainly not because of the lack of options for women after giving birth, like the insane costs of raising a kid, the low number of kindergartens, the discrimination against women with kids when it comes to hiring, that they're expected to be housewives for the rest of their lives, etcetera. Who am I kidding, it's definitely their fault of marrying late despite the pressure from their parents, their peers and the society to do so.

You need 2 incomes to support a household more often than not, but in Japan more than most first world nations women are still expected to leave the work force once they marry.

It seems that the average age of marriage in Japan is rising as time passes by.
In any case...Congratulations to Mrs. Shimizu-san for her marriage.
