I'm not even surprised. I knew they would. I mean, come on! It's FUNimation. They'd NEVER miss a chance to do something like this if their life depended on it. Besides, Laura Bailey did say her favorite role was Tohru, so why NOT bring her back?

I was a little worried. She didn't come back as Platinum the Trinity, Kid Trunks, Rise Kujikawa, and a maybe others. So very glad to hear this news. It wouldn't be Tohru without her.

yeah it seems like she went the route of Troy Baker and not do much anime related stuff these days, (triple A video games pay better I guess) but it's good to know they got her back.

Im really happy that Laura is returning. I honestly was worried when the new adaption of Fruits Basket was announced that she wouldnt. Considering how many rolls in past years she got replaced on I was worried there was some bad blood between her and Funimation. i wonder if the songs will be dubbed again.
Perhaps i should finish the original anime before the new adaption, Im stuck on episode 9. The UK DVD release is really bad quality that it annoys me to watch it and fully enjoy it. Feel like i should just download it or something.....

Well she didn’t return for Trunks because it put a strain on her voice and when they announced the dub of super they didn’t know how much involvement Trunks would have in the story so they didn’t want to risk her messing up her voice. As for Rise there was a video on YouTube at one of her panels explaining why she couldn’t do the role again because she was already cast in something else and scheduling was an issue.

Laura Bailey was one of the first English dub voice actors I became a fan of back in my high school days. I really enjoyed a lot of her anime roles like Lust in FMA, Keiko in Yu Yu Hakusho, and more recently as Emily in Gltter Force. Laura Bailey is the definitive English voice of Tohru so I'm really glad to see her return to the role.

Really happy to hear Laura will be back as Tohru, I really enjoyed her in the original anime and can't really see anyone else in the role for the English dub.
I'm still amazed and happy to see more Fruits Basket after all these years

They should have no trouble bringing back Eric Vale and Jerry Jewel for Yuki and Kyo because they still both work at Funimation regularly so we've got the main trio back which is good.

The reason she doesn't do much work for Funimation anymore is that she no longer lives in Houston which is where they're based, she moved to Los Angeles which (I've just looked up) is 1500 miles away so she can't really commute regularly. It's the same reason Travis Willingham (who she's married to) doesn't do much Funimation work anymore either.

Glad to see she's still doing anime. I was worried there for a moment.

Well, I was perfectly happy to accept someone else voicing Tohru (honestly getting a new Fruits Basket to begin with was a pipe dream for so long), but I'm so pleasantly surprised to hear she's returning! I know she's said the character was one of her personal favorites, but I just never expected the logistics to work out.
I always expected the dub cast to be a mix of old and new, for one reason or another. I'd rather the cast be great on its own instead of tied to nostalgia to its own detriment anyways, so I'm open to whatever Funimation decides to do. In this specific case, I just assumed Tohru would fall in the "New" category, but its a nice surprise.
I'm not surprised to hear Caitlin Glass as the ADR director, and I think she will do a great job! There are quite a few Funi ADR directors I really like (For example, Kyle Phillips and Clifford Chapin have been a couple of my favorite Funi ADR directors as of the past few seasons) and this seems like a great project for her in particular.
I was already super excited about the Maaya Sakamoto casting announcement, so just keep the Fruba news coming please, I love it!

Oh yeah that was it, I always get their locations mixed up. Either way my point still stands it's roughly the same distance.
