The review affirmed my fears that Rimuru is this series' worst enemy. It's hard to have actual stakes when your lead character is more OP than Goku.

I'd argue that the previous season of the anime was able to pull this off pretty well. Rimuru ultimately emerges victorious because it's a rather happy-go-lucky series and not some Greek tragedy, but things weren't a cake walk and there were some losses along the way.
