Normally a charge like this in the US/North America would get you 50+ years, or even a life sentence. But 4 years is like a minor felony in my eyes. This is sad and unfortunate but yet not surprising if you've been observing the justice system in East Asia.

Depending on how severe the acts are in the country I live in, the perpetrator can receive up to 15+ years plus safe custody which would be equal to life sentence. But yes, I love Japan but some of the laws are just...

Here in the states, I was on a jury that put away a man for 40 years who only had one victim. Only 4 years is just...nonsense.

As I said, the justice system in Asia is just... Well, I don't know what else I can say.

I remember seeing this wording before in similar article on ANN, but it's weird to see "nonconsensual sexual intercourse" description when it not used to describe rape, but prostitution where consent was given, but doesn't count legally. Especially since they immediately write "minor" in the same sentence so we know it's not legal prostitution.

Beside China, what other East Asian countries do harsh punishment against this type of act like Itou did?

I have never understood the Japanese courts of law. Apparently you can evade your crimes if they are "just" sex with minors by seeming "contrite" enough (and paying money in settlements).
But drug use, no victims, bam, life in jail.

This has never happened. I swear people just love making things up about Japan.

That was an exaggeration for comedy purposes, I think they call it a "joke". Relax.

Uh, I don't like to criticize or ridicule a ANN user on this, but I would recommend you put a little marker or a indicator that any joke or sarcasm is really a joke/sarcasm so other users don't think you're serious.
True story: I made a sarcastic remark on a website (not ANN) many years ago, and I had users threatening to call law enforcement on me because of my sarcasm because I didn't put any indicator that my statement was sarcasm. Online sarcasm can be hard to detect. So there's that.

Considering how many people always get mad about Japan actually having competent drug laws when it comes to any other unrelated crime news story it's hard to tell. A lot of English fans genuinely think this way.
