I will say this about OutRun: it is a better game than I remembered.
I've been re-playing Yakuza 0 which includes OutRun as part of the Sega arcades. I can see now that it has more depth than what I saw as a kid. It takes real skill to play and I couldn't see that when I was younger-I thought it was just plain unfair. I still haven't completely cleared it but I've made it over halfway to one of the 'endings'. Maybe someday. |

OK, the Gundam Wing X Overwatch 2 was unexpected and weird at the same time, because Gundam Wing is not mainstream level god-tier anime compared to something like Dragonball, My Hero Academia, Attack on Titan, or even Neon Genesis Evangelion despite it's relevance for helping the Gundam franchise in the US. But I did find it odd they choose Wing over G-Witch, or GQuuuuuuX given that both titles are recent and more relevant to Gen Z gamers (assuming they're the one playing and make up of the demographic of Overwatch 2).
Also nice of you to mention Call of Duty X Gundam collaboration, because Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare had a storyline similar to Mobile Suit Gundam I mean the Settlement Defense Front/SDF reminds me of Zeon in many ways. Also, if you change the game's trailer and put Gundam in there, it feels a lot like a Gundam game using COD gameplay and engine. So that's all I have to say. |

If they wanted to do a car based movie based on a SEGA IP they should have done Crazy Taxi and maybe make some crazy money. Make it a witty comedy. An Outrun movie would have worked in the 90s maybe even the 2000s but the IP is so old now with no new entities in since 2009 this just feels like you should make an original IP movie unless you just really, really want the movie to be called Outrun.

I already said in the other thread on the subject but I think an OutRun movie could work if they use Cannonball Run as the template as I suspect that Cannonball Run was an inspiration for the original OutRun arcade game anyway (plus a real-life trip that Yu Suzuki took through Europe where he supposedly shot hours of videotape from a dashboard mounted 1980s videocamera).
OutRunners, which was essentially the original OutRun 2 (Turbo OutRun was more of an expansion pack than a full-fledged sequel), had a lot of that Cannonball Run spirit, introducing multiple vehicles and multiplayer into the mix. They could even tie it in to the real-life Gumball 3000 rally. But, like I said before, I'm less hoping that the movie will be good and more hoping that Sega will finally put out a new OutRun game to tie-in to the movie. Even though I've been an OutRun fan since the days of the Sega Master System, I don't feel obliged in any way to see the movie if it turns out terrible, just as I never saw last year's Garfield Movie despite still being unironically a fan of Lorenzo Music-era Garfield specials and, to a slightly lesser degree, Garfield and Friends. |

How is Crazy Taxi not any less outdated? Between it’s late 90’s soundtrack and it’s early 00’s aesthetic. Not to mention CT’s last relevant game depending on who you ask was in 2007. |

They tried to make a Crazy Taxi movie in the early 2000s with no less than Richard Donner involved, but it never got off the ground.
OutRun can easily be an off-brand Cannonball Run, so it has that going for it. I mean, what do you need to be faithful too? Couples driving in nice cars. I think Michael Bay can handle that. |

Though what's funny is now Sydney Sweeney is supposedly being cast in a Split Fiction movie directed by John M. Chu, so whatever. We'll see if it ever gets made.
Also funny seeing how ActiBlizz is trying their hand at anime collaborations after we had stuff like Hellsing Alucard in Call of Duty. What next, Hatsune Miku in Tony Hawk? Actually, make that happen |

Sydney Sweeney is supposed to be in a lot of stuff now. Feels like half of it got announced in the last month. If it ever gets made indeed.

I'm waiting on getting a Switch 2. I generally wait on new console releases until more games are out or an interested variant or new version of it comes out. I'm just fine playing Mario Kart 8 if I want my Mario Kart itch. If they ever release a Mario Maker 3 I would buy one though since I love those games.
I have not heard of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 before but I know I do not like the discussion I've seen surrounding it. I hope it's not one of those games that only gets praise because it's a western attempt at a Japanese idea so people are more accepting of it and it ruins a lot of the discussion surrounding it. I'm not sure about Ubisoft as a company as well... |

Don't worry about it: over 90% on Steam, OpenCritic, and MetaCritic. Despite Oblivion Remastered "shadow-drop" a couple days earlier, half a million sales the first day (just behind Oblivion), even when on Xbox+PC Game Pass (which rather than hindering its sales, likely increased its visibility like what happened recently with Atomfall). While Ubisoft has nothing to do with it |

RPG’s video games are descended from tabletop RPG’s which are decidedly not Japanese in origin. Something that should be telling with the fact many fantasy settings in anime & manga tend to incorporate elements and aspects that are clearly taken from European History & Mythology.
According to a leak - Ramattra is spoiler[Epyon] - Reaper is spoiler[Deathscythe] - Soldier 76 is spoiler[Tallgease (which of course isn’t a Gundam).]
You mean by itself or at? all cause I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news…. Last edited by BadNewsBlues on Mon Apr 28, 2025 5:53 pm; edited 1 time in total |

The '00s are a lot more recent than the late 80s, and people still dig All I Want a lot more than the admittedly-more-obscure OutRun songs. Also, I think it's easier to structure a movie around a gaggle of weirdo cab drivers trying to make some kuh-raaaazy money driving people to Tower Records or Pizza Hut. |

It could be that not all that many late era Zoomers or members of Gen Alpha have ever actually played an OutRun game but one indirect way younger people may be aware of OutRun is due to the title of the game being used as shorthand for a certain 1980s cliché-inspired aesthetic with the laser grids and segmented sun (ironically not visual elements which actually appear in any on-brand Sega OutRun game as far as I remember, the closest thing you get to a sunset in the original OutRun game is a stage set at dusk with the sun already below the horizon).

Same. I was playing it the same way, and younger me never got past, "go fast and swerve." I think playing it as part of Yakuza 0 somewhat highlights why it's an odd choice for a movie. There were lots of arcade racers out there, and the only reason I remembered which one OutRun even was is because of a different game. The lack of any real plot to deal with may be a benefit, especially for someone like Bay, since there isn't a lot to worry about beyond making it entertaining. On the flip side, it's not exactly going to lead to much for Sega, but I suppose if someone wanted to pay them just to make it, then it's an easy enough thing to approve. You can't do much harm to an IP that they weren't using anyway. |
