Gamers got real mad at a price and buckled and bought something anyway? I'm shocked, shocked, I say!

But But the hardware is outdated and the LCD sucks! You can't trust everything you read online, the system is nice, and the screen is fine.

I am not surprised at all with this because it's been hyped for months even before its official reveal. Plus it seems Nintendo is keeping up with demand so they won't have the problems that the PS5 and XBox Series did. They expect to sell 15 million in their first year and they seem to be ahead of schedule

I'm not surprised, lots of people were complaining, sometimes rightfully so, about the price of the console and the games, but I knew that it wouldn't really mean anything in terms of sales. I just bought my console, and traded in my switch and a few switch games I don't play anymore to help bring down the price.

I can't seem to find any stores near me that are selling it. They're sold out literally everywhere near me.

Yup, don't believe everything you read on the internet, especially when people are saying it very insistently at every opportunity. There are some people who think they have some moral duty to complain to Nintendo because it will lower the price the same, these people are very loud but often not representative of gamers on the whole.

Rather than moral duty to defend the rights of consumers of Nintendo's predatory practices, most of the drama videos and negative posts on social media seem to be done intentionally in order to garner rage clicks and to give a false impression that Nintendo itself is in trouble and that Switch 2 will be the WiiU 2. I mean, anyone is free to criticize Nintendo, but most of the videos on YouTube have some of the most dramatic clickbaity titles possible, it's pretty obvious that the majority of content creators don't particularly care if the Switch 2 is a success or a failure, though the latter would be better for making more videos. I believe that some of the most infamous content creators that complained about the Switch 2 already bought one and shared it on social media, which means they have zero awareness. In regards to gamers on forums complaining about the Switch 2, that's something that I don't particularly get, I think most seem to believe that Nintendo has brainwashed an entire generation to but inferior hardware to play outdated games at full price and to that I can only say, "Why do you care?", I mean, people are free to make their own choices, all of this feels more like console warring, like they're mad at people choosing Nintendo istead of a PS/Xbox/PC, but I'm always told that Nintendo operates separately from the "true" consoles, it's not like third-party developers are going to focus on the Switch 2, there's not that many third-party games on the Switch 2, yet. Don't know if there's also an element of resentment, like people always want Nintendo to go third-party ever since the end of the GameCube era or that at least they port some of their games to other consoles and PC, I think people want Nintendo to fail so they can exit the hardware business and become a developer, just like SEGA |

I've seen a lot of (very valid) criticism of Nintendo in the past month, but I really haven't seen anyone who wasn't expecting the Switch 2 to sell extremely well, at least initially.

Yeah, there is plenty to criticize Nintendo about, but people generally know what they're buying in this day and age. People want this thing. I didn't really see people saying it would fail but there were a lot of people hoping it does or hoping Nintendo fails so it definitely feels more vitriolic then people act for other companies.
I am so tired of hearing about specs honestly
For the longest time every conversation about games on the Switch revolved around specs and comparisons and how dumb it was they would even port that game with those horrible downgrades. No shade to the people that just want a smooth performing HD game, but so many people took it personally and they seem to come out in droves any time a Switch game didn't run like it was on a PS5 (never, because obviously). Then, when the SW2 was announced there were oodles of people complaining about the price saying stuff like "So now graphics matter? The entire SW1 life cycle we were told Nintendo didn't need high power graphics to make good games but now we need them enough to pay that much?" Like obviously a new system is going to be stronger than the previous one before it becomes more outdated and can't run modern games at all, that's the entire point of a new system??? The complaints I heard nonstop since the SW1 was released just morphed into now people are mad they have to pay for the specs that people have been asking for! It's always nice to know a system can hit some performance benchmark like 4k60fps or 1080p120fps just to understand what it can do, but when they announce the next console I am just going to plug my ears when people bring up the exact RAM and how much is being used for system functions and how this many flops are necessary for smooth performance. |

Maybe I’m misremembering but did the orignal Switch not also have supply shortages? Edit: Yes it did https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2017/06/nintendo-switch-shortages-are-definitely-not-intentional/ https://www.techspot.com/news/84756-nintendo-switch-shortage-more-systems-way.html
Which is interesting not only because of the minority of people who insist that Sega is going to jump back into the console market anytime now. But ignore part of the reason Sega is stuck publishing games, which has worked out for them, the odd spectacular failure notwithstanding. |

I think it's funny how people get pedantic about specs and performance when we're in an era where they're less prominent and important than ever. I think it's because now that graphics are plateauing, performance junkies are trying to find a new "objective" way to grade quality when graphical power can no longer suffice. Even then it's a clear a lot of these guys aren't as literate as they claim and they forget the obvious: as long as a game isn't completely busted most people do not care and can overlook it. Games aren't tech, they're entertainment that uses tech. And as we've seen with stuff like Tears of the Kingdom, apparently Nintendo are sorcerers considering what they can do with just the Switch. And now we seem to have an actual verdict, because the guys working on the Wild Hearts port have said it's closer to a Series S than a PS4 (which everyone should have gotten through their heads when Cyberpunk and the FFVII Remake showed up). So I not only expect a lot of next gen stuff to show up, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Switch 2 become the base platform for a lot of games going forward. Being half a gen behind isn't a deal break for most companies even from a tech perspective |

I guess everything that went down with the pandemic and the PS5 may have permanently skewed my expectations, because for the life of me I just cannot imagine being able pick up a Switch 2 easily for at least another year, yet when the Switch came out, I was able to get one less than a year after launch, when Mario Odyssey came out. So I guess there's precedent for Nintendo having sufficient stock in time for the holiday season.... but I dunno, I'm still having a hard time actually envisioning it. |

Yeah one can hope that history doesn’t repeat and those who want one now (and can afford it) don’t have to wait too long to get it. Not that it’ll matter either way but still. |
