That was an okay enough first episode but it did feel like they tried to do way too much and thus made everything feel rushed and superficial. The setting is interesting but barely explained, the mc is undying and can reset time yet his motivation is weak and he is annoying, the mech fights look lackluster and the characters get so little time to get introduced that you do not care about them at all. I would have preferred a slower episode that actually takes some time to offer an introduction.

I'm not putting this one on the "In it until episode 12" pile, but I liked it more than you did Smurky. I've said before that I'm willing to give Isekai all kinds of leeway so long as they don't (A) have a ridiculously OP hero from the start (B) have a mindlessly adoring harem fall instantly in love with the MC one trope after the other (C) Proceed straight from the deity who accidentally killed them to discovering the gaming system to rescuing or fighting the first harem candidate to the adventure's guild, etc. And I might even watch isekai that have all three of those elements if it feels like the maker was honestly having a good time and not just soullessly trying to cash in with as little effort as possible.

This isekai felt fairly fresh to me. The animation wasn't all that great, but I like the idea of seeing Sakura from Windbreaker get isekai'd. Granted, it was a less serious version of Sakura, but still, I liked him better than the bland smuggy smuggersons who usually get isekai'd. I also like that the narrator isn't a bizarre combination of horny and asexual but knows what he wants and pursues it - in this case her - wholeheartedly. I agree that things were rushed, but honestly, I'm just so relieved not to see the same ringed village and adventurer's guild that I don't mind giving the show a little more time to develop the world. I even think the combo of onmyoji magic and mecha technology is fun.

I'm not saying that it was a great anime, but I enjoyed it.

Episode 1

I'm more on the smurky side of the ledger so far, rather than Edjwald's but I think this has potential. Very much on probation, though.

For that potential to work out the show has to slow down a little. The first episode felt very rushed and the pieces need a bit of time to form a foundation to work with.

Speaking of ledgers, let's go ahead and put another black mark in Bloo....geez, did someone tape a dark piece of construction paper over this thing? Wink

But. basically it's more a question of degree than really disagreeing with Smurk. I can't deny the pacing issue, and I didn't like this anime as much as, say, the pilot episode of Red Ranger in Another World, but I enjoyed the presentation of the premise well enough anyhow because this is a genre I like. If it was a genre I could take or leave, I'd have been more meh. I can see myself gradually losing interest in this anime if it doesn't add a couple more layers of texture to the world and the characters inhabiting it, but there's not much to lose rooting for it.

The second episode was somewhat better. The pacing slowed down a little in order to have the characters actually talk with eachother (even have a meal). This meant Takeru relatively quickly noticing that he went back in time again plus further than before. I liked that he was sensible enough to quickly seek out help in order to get stronger knowing the future. The training part was sadly almost entirely skipped but the result was somewhat satisfying if you look past the uninteresting/stiff looking monster fight.

Episode 2 being less fast paced has managed to convince me to watch more, I liked that the show is trying to breathe some life into the other characters and expand the setting.

I don't know that I was struck by how quickly Takeru adjusted to his time warp. In fact, I found myself wishing he would shut up and step back to think about the situation for a moment. But I enjoyed episode 2 as well.

I put this show and Hell Teacher on about the same level. Shounen stuff, heart over brain, lots of declarations of passion and intent, some cool enemies and supernatural elements (fused with science here) in play. Clumsy if any romance. Likable enough goofball MCs. Basically fun but not anywhere near the top of my list this season.

One thing that's clear is that either Takeru's family has an insane number of family mottos, or he's just a big old fat liar.

Nagi is always pulling an endless number of family mottos out of his butt cheeks over in A Couple of Cuckoos too. I would do terrible as an anime character in these situations. I can think of all kinds of lessons I learned or inferred from my upbringing, but as far as official family mottos go, I'd be tossing out little bon mots like "Take as much food as you want but don't leave the table until you've cleared your plate" or "It's always better to overdecorate a Christmas Tree than risk under decorating it" or "We don't get lost, we just take the scenic route." Which, actually might have more philosophical implications than I thought now that I read them..

"Hey, you kids, don't run around the edge of the pool!" Hmmn. Maybe not.

Anyway, things are proceeding briskly - maybe even a little too briskly - it feels like the MC is eating at the object of his affections family dinner table and we still haven't seen much actual interaction, and he's telling everyone that he's a time traveler and an isekai-er, and nobody's sat him down in front of a recording device and started asking for specifics, etc.

But, times like these, we're meant to shrug our shoulders and say, "Hey, it's a shounen!"

And I'm still having fun. Maybe not enough fun to take this one off of my provisional list where it and Hell Teacher are both still residing, but fun. I liked the Yura storyline fine.

I don't mean to be crude, but I will be anyway. Mr. Green That shot of Abe's general when it did its hero landing was...suggestive? I know it was intended to be the ball joints of its hips, but it looked like a serious wardrobe malfunction of its fundoshi. I mean there were so many other ways they could've depicted that landing, even still having the breechcloth flutter in the breeze, without throwing that view in my face. Embarassed smh

Those all sound perfectly profound to me. "Don't run around the edge of the pool, dive in!" Seems like good advice.

Yeah, that sure is a family with a lot to say on everything. The episode had me curious as to when the other shoe was going to drop. Things were going too smoothly and the nature of Takeru's power being unknown was mentioned several times. Personally, I think that his powers look a bit Oni in nature. Him having that stamp is a weird one too, there is probably more to it than what has been shown thus far and it would be a shame if there was not more time travel.

Yup, with the end of episode 4 we got more time travel. I rather liked the episode in that there was a lot of down time for the characters to relax and talk. It gave some of the characters very much needed bits of depth. It was also nice to see some more of the city and the explanation that Abe gave about why Takery is needed despite his unstable power made sense.

That said, most of the episode was so cheerful plus they mentioned not having lost versus the oni god for a long time that you knew what was gonna happen. I did not expect a complete wipeout but it made for an effective moment.

So has Abe known more than he's let on all along? "This Heian-kyo is done for," like he's been through this before as well, over the last millennium.

I hope he doesn't have to start over from scratch again. If so, they need to give him some sort of code word to quickly convince them or something.

Or speed up the proces a bit, having to explain something multiple times could get old. Abe knowing more was to be expected after hearing that he is over a thousand years in age.

Episode 4

This is the problem I have with "reset" shows... there are no stakes. The good guys lose and everything gets wiped out? No problem, we'll just turn the clock back and do it all again until the good guys win. Whee.
