Why does this review refer as Lloyd's group as a "harem"? Just say they're his "entourage", simple as that. That "h" word is used way too much.

Also, considering how Lloyd's thighs look like that, I guess the niche viewers are also supposed to want to tap that. Considering the amoutn of lewd fanart out there, yeah, I guess they accomplished that.

Show was a blast and the 2nd season is shaping up to be just as ridiculous too.

Yea I agree it’s a fun show for sure and S2 has been really entertaining so far.

I like how the manga gently dabbled in colour for certain magic scenes. It feels like the magic is lost going full colour for the anime? Still decent enough, but it feels like it's lacking something.

and as an OP protagonist, he's far likable than the others (LOOKING AT YOU CID KAGENO)

his love for anything magic reminds me of liam who was also likable as a character, and considering that the series is getting a season 2 which was a massive surprise for me, its pretty clear that their doing things right enough that there is a demand in japan for more of this adaptation!

The review feels like he watched a different series

Minus points because the series is not anticapitalist propaganda? That's hilarious, opening the review with that made me set on ignoring whichever score the series got. I still read a bit on the rest of the paragraphs and they were also pretty gross.

Is this a joke? The series has some of the best and coolest fights in fantasy anime, and the last half of season 1 had an amazing story with amazing writing. The hell is this "reviewer" talking about?

Yeah, I'm not getting the beef against this one. For anyone that can get past the shota fanservice (or is into that kind of thing, I suppose), pretty much everyone I know has found something to really enjoy with it. And some of them typically don't really care for these kinds of stories, so clearly it must be doing something right.

This feels like a case of the reviewer just going into it and wanting to watch a totally different show. Which, fair enough, but still.

Why is this a reincarnation story if it's not going to examine the difference between being born poor and being born rich?

Batman comics didn't feel the need to make Bruce Wayne the reincarnation of clumsy Zorro fan.

And why would that be applicable to this in any way? This is a story of someone who was bad with magic in his first life but was granted great magical powers in his next.

That's how I feel. Like, the reviewer read a synopsis of the series, made up their expectations and then got sad it wasn't the series they specifically wanted to watch.

I haven't watched the anime yet (though I want to) but I enjoyed the manga. It was just super goofy shenanigans of a guy who loves magic and his cute demon sidekick who wants to kill the guy but gets roped into adventures instead. I don't feel like the series wants to comment on much of anything other than "magic is cool!".
Would it have been nice if it commented on poverty/financial security? I guess, though who knows if the author would've even done it well lol. This is a series where you just turn your brain off and enjoy the flashing colours and funny faces.

Will give props to the reviewer for not spending paragraphs talking about how Lloyd's design is icky. Completely fair if you feel that way about it but sometimes it feels like discussion gets too focused on that to comment on anything else.

Why do we need the first part? Just start with some dude born with magic powers.

I would also like to add a detail from the that the anime didn't explain well: Lloyd wasn't killed a noble because of discrimination. He realized that he was never going to be able to study magic properly because of his very small amount of mana, so he wanted to kill himself. He purposefully insulted that noble as hard as he could to get him to kill him, so that he could at least experience magic as he died.
