The Saint Seiya theme song goes harder than almost any other anime intro ever. It's iconic. Plus, this is basically the song that introduced anime to Latin America. RIP legend.

We've lost one of the most iconic musical voices of Japan. We've lost the voice behind one of the most iconic anime songs of all time.
RIP Nobuo Yamada. Thank you for all the wonderful music. You will be missed. |

I'm not a Saint Seiya fan, but I'm going to say that's very sad and unfortunate to hear about the passing of this prominent singer. RIP!!!
OK, despite Yamada-san has passed away from kidney cancer, in case if any of you have not been watching the news or missed hearing about this but.... There is a pancreatic cancer vaccine that is showing promises in early clinical trials. I know kidney cancer and pancreatic cancer are 2 different type of cancers but I'm hoping the successful clinical trial of the pancreatic cancer vaccine can lead to a possibly a kidney cancer variant vaccine. If they do, I would like it to be in honor of all victims (both survivors and anyone that passed away from kidney cancer including Yamada-san). |

My deepest condolences to his family. Pegasus Fantasy is one of the most iconic songs in anime history and I also loved Saint Seiya's
I don't want to correct a little detail like this in this type of article, but when Saint Seiya first aired in Latin America in the early '90s the Neutral Spanish dub kept the European Spanish opening, which itself was a cover of the French opening which was a completely original song, it wasn't until the 2000s when Saint Seiya was rerun in various TV channels across Latin America when they adapted Pegasus Fantasy and the rest of the songs into Neutral Spanish, but well, you could say more people became aware of Pegasus Fantasy. |

My condolences to his family, friends and fans. He gave the world a legendary anime theme song and I'm sure he remained famous in Japan for his other works, so I hope he was proud of his legacy before passing on.
Oh, it's a very necessary correction. Newer Saint Seiya fans did get to heard a proper Spanish language cover of Pegasus Fantasy on TV, but the first generation of Latin American viewers was subjected to a completely different song made for the European Spanish release. Oddly charming yet not particularly impressive compared to the original. I could never figure out exactly what they were saying at points, though it was likely "LA CANCIÓN DE LOS HÉROES". |

Rest in peace, legend. Pegasus Fantasy is forever my favorite anime opening theme, and it's mostly because of his inimitable vocal performance.

He was like Masaaki Endoh before Masaaki Endoh, and the two even performed together once.
Of course, Pegasus Fantasy remains his best song, and he even popped up frequently in Super Sentai (as well as featured in Cyber Formula as DYNAMITE SHIN). Real sad to see him go so young. |
