By the end of this, the top 10 will have 5 Demon Slayer movies. Even possible for all of the top five to be them since Infinity Train holds #1 right now.

There's a strong chance for all four new Demon Slayer films to enter the all-time top 5, but the compilation films haven't yet entered the all-time top 100.

Miscounted on my part. Was thinking it was three more movies to come out after this, but forgot to deduct the one that just came out lol. Guess it will come down to whether or not there will be another movie or just a final season to adapt the last arc.

Something that I find it fascinating is that in the Top 10 of the higest-grossing films of all time in Japan there are only 2 live-action movies, Titanic and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, aside from Mugen Train at the top and Infinity Castle at fourth place (for now), we also have 3 Miyazaki films, Disney's Frozen, Your Name and One Piece Film: Red, the only Japanese live-action film near the Top 10 is Bayside Shakedown 2 at No. 11 and it seems the "closest one" is Antartica from 1983 at No. 38.
I just find it curious because in other countries many of their own domestic live-action films have become some of the most successful in their own country, though I know sometimes animation does bring a lot more audience, we've seen that this year with the success of Ne Zha 2 in China, but there are very few live-action Japanese live-action films in the Top 50 of the highest grossing films in Japan, the majority are anime or Hollywood productions. Is there a problem with the live-action Japanese movie industry?

Can infinity castle dethrone mugen train though? from all the analysis by "experts" that I've seen I'm assuming no.
I think mugen train's advantage to have had near no competition during the covid era it was released in is something infinity castle will not be able to beat.
I think the most and best case scenario this franchise can achieve is have mugen train as the number 1 and then the trilogy right below it.

The generic simple response I've come across is simply that Japan's many TV dramas have long satisfied audiences there who want live-action storytelling involving Japanese culture, issues and interests. Average folks typically go to the movie theater to enjoy a big spectacle, and Hollywood has long had that well covered (with drastically larger budgets to work with than the average Japanese film). Anime is the main exception because Japan is the one place making high-quality 2D animation fit for grand, flashy, exciting films worth seeing on the big screen.
That all said, there are definitely some great live-action films being made in Japan that are well-worth seeking out. Perhaps in time there will be enough hits to get some proper momentum going. Godzilla Minus One is a recent notable standout IMO.

YouTubers laud the takings for the first Mugen-Jo film, but even they admit it'll be hard to maintain enough momentum to dethrone the COVID-propelled Mugen Ressha film takings, especially as the Obon holiday break is over and viewers return to the workplace. Overseas crowds are going gangbusters as well, so even if it fails to overthrow Mugen Ressha for the top spot its global takings might well surpass it.
Unlike mainland China and its deliberate suppression of foreign film imports in favour of local productions of any type, the Japanese cinema industry market is more open. If it entertains, it'll sell and most Hollywood productions fit that bill. The writing has been on the wall for some time as far as live-action films are concerned though. This is the same country that churns out detective Conan films on an annual basis with all of them making a decent profit. Not many local live action adaptations can boast the same strength of IP backing the adaptation.

I'm perfectly happy that most adaptions in Japan are animation. You simply can't do better than animation in adapting a comic because you can draw things 1:1 with ease. No concessions about viability in live-action or any other hinderances that have to be taken into account like all the superhero movies do in the US. I think it's well deserved to see anime films do so well at the box office and it's what Japan has chosen to be successful from their country.

Isn’t this already out of date? Pretty sure it’s now become Japan’s third highest-grossing film of all time.

Unlikely, since Titanic is #3 on the list and the gap as of the article is 5 billion yen. It might well pass that milestone before the end of August, but certainly not after looking at the Obon takings.

You are correct. The article I read (not here) stated it was the third highest but that was a mistake. My bad.
Thanks for correcting me!
