Before the first chapter came out, actually. People hyped it ironically based solely on the promotional images.
It was nice in the panel how a bunch of fans presented Hokazono with an artbook of his work that they'd put together beforehand.

Yeah, the memes were the result of the first chapter leaking and how generic it looked. It was a pretty great surprise that it turned out to be one of the best modern shonen titles seen in years.
