Can't really say I'm crazy about more consolidation. I was hoping Plaion's backing would lead to them expanding and becoming a real player in North America as well, but there's no point in that any more when Toho already has GKIDS.

I've seen more praise for this from UK fans, was Plaion/Embracer really that bad?

I wish the company was still independent. They used to go after niche titles that otherwise would not have had a UK release. Tokyo Marble Chocolate, Princess Arete, Mai Mai Miracle(though that was Kicstarted), Fuse, Pigtails and other shorts etc.

Will this change things for the better or the worse. Will Toho just use it as a means to directly release their titles in Europe, like what Crunchyroll do with Manga UK or allow them to act more independently.

People hate Embracer because of their rapid expansion by buying up everything under the sun in the small to mid size game development/publishing space, and then very publicly had a subsequent meltdown as they ran out of money and had to start canceling games, shutting down studios and selling off a lot of what they've previously bought.

But I don't think there was anything especially bad about Plaion (previously Koch Media), they seemed like a pretty solid European media company.

I guess it's good for us, as long as it doesn't affect the upcoming home video release of Macross Frontier and Delta in UK and France.
