Perhaps it's out of the scope of a review like this, but it would be nice if there was a list or reference to which episodes are featured in each batch somewhere.

Is this in the encyclopedia somewhere, and I just haven't noticed it?

Glad to see TMS keeps pumping these out - more episodes from the backlog please!

That is terrible, but it also sucks for Ran, who continues to be gaslit regarding her suspicions.

I've only seen what's been released on Netflix so far so I could be completely off base, but It's funny because on one hand it legitimately makes sense that Shinichi and Ai keeping this secret from Ran does legitimately make sense as they want to protect her from getting involved... but at the same time she's already pretty freakin' involved just by nature of Conan staying with her. Even if she never learns the truth she's a prime target for anyone who would want to capture or kill Shinichi, and it'd be pretty feasible for her to be killed for potentially knowing something she shouldn't, so it'd actually be to her benefit to even tell her a half truth. I think the choice he made in this set of episodes is pretty valid, but it'd be hard for me to say the same 1000 episodes later.

The episodes for this review are locked room in the sky (shinichi flashback) desperate revival arc, and then Detective conan & gathered detectives VS kaito kid

So the desperate revival is one of the most iconic of detective conan stories that isn't apart of the black organization plot line. I am very happy to finally see it dubbed into English finally.it was one of my major criticism of the original set of episodes that this particular set of episodes was not included .

I will say that based on the supposed time line in detective Conan (that basically can't pretend to exist) this would supposedly be a month maybe after the tropical land fiasco. Because at most 7-8 months are allowed to pass between the current timeline of the series due to school classes not changing. desperate revival is about the end of the first quarter of the series. so it is supposed to be still somewhat reasonable that shinichi is still scared enough after nearly dying that he is not rationally thinking about the situation possibly with ran and not telling her.

The series has a problem with portraying it as poor ran she can never be with him, and she'll just wait for ever for him forever when he is at most gone less then a year. and we feel that a lot because the anime constantly (and somewhat the manga) constantly does this to her while for us the audience it has been DECADES OF THIS STATUS QUO.

yes there is times she is more and less suspicious of conan and once were she is convinced and gets proof of it. but then revert to status quo .

To the show's credit, it thankfully doesn't use Shinichi's condition as an excuse to keep him and Ran apart. Instead, it's treated more like being forced into a long-distance relationship. They still talk and can occasionally meet face-to-face, it's just harder. Their relationship doesn't get stuck in limbo and is allowed to gradually grow over the course of the series.

As for keeping Ran in the dark, it is annyoying but I can tolerate it because it isn't something Shinichi only does to Ran; he does it to everyone. The only person he has ever willingly told is Agasa; everyone else figured it out on their own, and even then, Conan kept denying the truth until he was forced into a position where he had to come clean.

Rewatching episode 2 of season 1 we have a scene of Conan trying to tell Ran his true identity but he never considers again. It's like Aoyama is against this couple several times even if Kudo gets an easy way to recover his body already in early episodes. Guess the body transformation is too painful to spam for Kudo even though his entire family and that Astroboy doctor knew it from the beginning.

The reason he doesn’t change back even when the temporary cure gets introduced is because he’s supposed to be dead. If the organization learned he was alive they’d go after him.
