You should check the summary of the review outside the article, it's the same as the "Always a catch!" one.

Edit: It seems to be already fixed ( o_o) -b

I wanted to love this series, and all the ingredients seem to be there. But just so much didn't quite work. Not a terrible series per se, but far from great.

As for Toshio not recognizing the girls by their barely disguised voices, in itself already questionable, but even more so considering the earlier episode where Toshio and Hitomi ended up together, and they made a whole point about Hitomi not saying a word. In retrospect, why even bother?

As for that car race....it was kinda fun, but also way sillier and even more unrealistic than the series already was. Felt kinda out of place.

I generally love Tsukasa Hojo's work. City Hunter is my all-time favorite manga and anime. I can (and have) rewatched it over and over.

As for Cat's Eye, it is not without its charm. But man, does so much of it bug me. From the girls not wearing masks to working out of a cafe that shares a name with their publicly known thieving name to the idiot boyfriend who can't, or won't, figure out the most basic of deductions, it stretches credulity beyond the breaking point.

And look, City Hunter can be ridiculous too. But it never made me say "Oh c'mon" out loud like Cat's Eye does repeatedly. I had hopes the new version would keep the playful spirit of the series while updating/tweaking some of its dumber aspects. Instead we got a straight up remake of the original except truncated down to fewer episodes and with the only updates being the acknowledgement that cell phones now exist.

Disappointed all-around with this one. C/C- rating for me.

I think it's a failure of the adaption if they didn't get you invested in Hitomi and her relationship with Toshio, like even beyond some of the more ridiculous conceits of it it's still the emotional core of the story and the conflict. The sisters' can easily outwit the police but Hitomi can't outmaneuver her feelings for Toshio and the guilt over their relationship dynamic.

Though I do have to laugh where the entire show wraps up with the sisters gaslighting him for the umpteenth time so Hitomi can have a romantic moment with him. On-brand, but still.

I did find it interesting that they were more subtle with Asatani's feelings for Toshio compared to the original, but that was probably because they didn't have a lot of episodes to play it out.

I think it was solid to okay as a remake but truncating the premise and cast into 12 episodes with average production values was never going to work in its favor compared to the original anime. I think they did capture some of the heart of the series, the remake cast (both JP/ENG) were great, and some great moments. So I still enjoyed it even if it wasn't my ideal remake.

I was very excited for this when it got announced, but after the dust has settled I'm honestly not sure I remember much from it. Much like Jairus said in the review, the show being forgetable does feel like the worst outcome.

Yup. Though in my case, at least, it did provide me with the incentive to check out the manga, which I wound up enjoying much more than the anime, so it wasn't a total loss.

the problem with cats eye is that they left out far too many things from the manga. in fact, it feels like the staff skip a lot of content and only put in their favorite parts of the manga as eps which is a bad idea.

while its definitely by no means AN AWFUL REMAKE, its definitely one of the more inferior anime remakes from the 80's! especially when compared to by far superior remakes like the new ranma 1/2 or even the legend of galactic heroes die nue these 5 yrs ago!

and ita because if it that have be really worried for the eventual fist of the north star remake. cause if cats eye can fail, it speaks of the massive hurddle that other 80's animes remakes will be facing.

TMS has the eighties anime on their YouTube channel:

I think it's available worldwide.

Yeah, this remake fell flat for me too. The whole feels competentlt made, yet half-assed at the same time. Even this second half was all new material for me personally, as I only watched the 80's anime which was left unfinished... and still, it still didn't feel exciting.

It's a shame, I wanted to like this more than I did.
