9:
While episode 9 had the girls in it I think that the vibe is still different from before. Part of that is Yashiro having no hesitance at all about bringing his students into a hornet's nest (he does view them as his students now, which is something they might soon regret). He was not exactly gentle before but it is a wild lesson even for him. Saera is very much the only one with common sense in the party, the other two just popped their E3 and are ready to go.
I had to chuckle at them raiding Ishinoo's stash of cards.

Apropos of nothing, I'll just say I'm surprised this show got made considering the source material consists of a single LN volume. In any case, some speculation flashed into my head: I can't shake the feeling that there is something hinky about Ishino's death... hinky like he ain't actually dead. And that instinct leads me to my second theory: not only is he coming back, but when he does, he'll be a bad guy. You read it here first.

I certainly can't discard the possibility, but I was more of a mind that King Arthur is the real force behind this new drug and Ishino's death. The fact that King Arthur doesn't want his daughter to have anything to do with becoming a brave and the scene where Ishino refused to work for King Arthur could both go along with that.

If the supposedly dead Ishino turns out to be working with/for Arthur, we'd both be right! Wouldn't that be something?

If by "something" you mean a violation of some kind of cosmic law...

I am starting to feel bad for Yashiro. Yes, bringing the girls into such a dangerous situation does not make him teacher of the year material but boy does not have a lot to work with. Jougamine is still the same as ever and not improving in any way, making her a huge liability. Due to trauma from the past Indou went nuts this week and rushed in without thinking or listening. That leaves only one member of the trio fully in the game.
Lord Storm Coffin being a yandere for Yashiro is a surprise. I respect him for not taking her money. Given the attack they might need to work together to some extend though.

Here's a few things I'm not sure about.
Nephilim are, as I understand it, the product of fallen angels having sex with humans. How did some translator or Japanese author wind up applying that particular term to what seem to be mutated salamanders?
Are the mutated salamanders supposed to be emissaries of whoever is peddling E4? Because they were dressed like cultists (remember the Nephilim thing?) and they didn't seem to be shooting out endless streams of regenerating tentacle limbs while they were getting hacked up.
And yeah, I'll give Yashiro props for not taking the money either given that he's spent most of the series hustling to bring his bar tab up a few notches.

You guys are lame! I sneer at Yoshiro for not taking the cash and using it for hookers and blow.

The episode was very slow with the fights being tactical in nature and it fit perfectly with the situation. The entire episode was basically the girls holding out until Yashiro could do something again and it really felt like it. Things got worse over time with just enough having been stalled to eke out a win.
Ido had a pretty nasty death and Ishino has been avenged. If anyone still had any hope that the guy was alive somewhere... nah.

I've thought this was a basically (maybe surprisingly) solid series throughout. I thought this episode was a cut above the others, no pun intended. Lots of things seemed to come together, and the lead tsunpunk finally came clean.
Still don't think we've gotten to the bottom of the E4 thing though.

Yeah, the E4 issue is becoming bigger and bigger as time goes on. Indou and her past with the nephilim makes clear that answers are likely to be found in Hokkaido. It is pretty wild that a whole part of Japan has been made into a no go zone though due to the demon lords having taken over there. The Aki mystery makes things even more interesting with her regenerating like a E4 user. I am pleasantly surprised by how story driven the show is.
The second half starts next week.

Yah, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this anime is a double cours.
Though if I could have picked which show from this season would get a double cours, this one wouldn't have been close to the front of the line. It wouldn't have been in the back of the line either.

The second cour has started and the new opening has me pondering. The first opening showed things that did not happen in the show. So Ishinoo appearing in the new one with a creepy laugh could mean nothing... or not.
Anyway, the episode is the start of a new arc and it is an interesting one. The gang is trying to find the half dragon group but still know next to nothing about them. The training session was funny though with sensei getting a bit more hands on.

I had skipped the OP so I didn't know Ishino was in it, but I did keep thinking throughout the episode that with all this talk of immortality, along with the dead reanimated animals and Jougamine's eye, it would not surprise me if Ishino showed up again, one way or another. Also, the OP theme is Revive...

My main reaction to the second cours is that the anime seems to have found its stride now that every episode doesn't waste ten minutes with an argument while they come up with a contrived excuse for forcing the cast to work together.
If Ishino is coming back in some version as you guys are suggesting - I wondered about the OP too - my question would be whether it's a natural course of events or something he planned or foresaw. Cause if that Ishino with the green hand is returning from death, he looked more like Sauron than Gandalf.
Random comment here - I think the voice actress playing Aki must be great. For some reason I never get tired of her shtick, and I should...right?
Anyhow, enjoying the show.
