I mentioned it in the preview guide, but I think the general feeling of this season moving fast will persist. The manga material left is probably doable with one season, but they are going to have to be efficient with how they do it. Like Lucas said, there are ways to make it work. Most of these characters are people who can, and have, killed without hesitancy at this stage, so there isn't dramatic buildup to some moment for them. It's just what they do, and over the course of the story we've seen people flow between factions and leave things uneasy about whether someone might be waiting for that one opening to strike.

And yeah, I don't know what was going on with the lines for Vasily. Part of the joke is obviously that he has to be translated, hence the Japanese subtitles directly on the video. The closed captioning on the dub is pretty bad, and different signs in the episode had the usual translation and styling. Something got missed there, and unfortunately, I doubt CR will go back to fix it since there are dubbed shows from last year that still have episodes with hard subs on them.

You can thank Satoru Noda for that. He storyboarded both the OP and ED!

Alright, I'm all caught up!

We've got Jack the Rippa hanging around in two shows this season, Kamuy, and Fate.

I dig Kamuy's version so far, though it's amusing he wound up all the way in Japan and got tattoo'd. But I guess they'd need someone quite heinous to put a gaijin in a maximum security prison.

No mention of the title drop?

It's one of the more memorable scenes in the entire series because it's the perfect resume of the entire journey we have been through. We started this journey with Sugimoto's encounter with a Wen Kamuy, however it wasn't the bear, it was the gold, a Golden Kamuy so to speak.

In this particular case is Gold, but the speech is about human desire, because everyone desires to attain something after they get the Gold, that's where the evil is born, you can justify any act as long as you get what you desire and we see Sugimoto's trying to protect Asirpa from doing this.

It's a beautiful scene, funnily enough, because Tsurumi damn well knows that he isn't the right person to tell this, but will do it anyway, in a meta way... you can see him being pissed on the irony lmao.

I love this episode.

I always lose it with Ogata's expression of meeting Sugimoto thinking that he was Yuusaku. He thought "maybe I can get along with this weirdo".

It looks like there are 27 chapters left to cover, even though this season has only 3 episodes left. Maybe this will get a wrap-up movie?

Maybe, but my guess would be that they will push through stuff fast. That's generally been the approach with the season. Personally, I think certain parts could have been shortened to give this back section more time. Like, the flashback to stuff about Yusuku probably could have been done in one episode. It would have been fast, but I didn't find it especially consequential to the story, especially for where it is placed in the middle of the concluding arc.

I feel like somewhere along the way the decision to turn Sapporo Beer into two movies completely screwed production, forcing them to excessively front-end that arc. And now we're left with 2 episodes to adapt 21 chapters

Tsurumi getting slapped in the face with a dismembered hand in a shower of blood is a reminder that the show never lets up on the humor.

I thought the same. I think that part could have reasonably been done in 3 episodes, but that would have meant either one movie or two very short movies. I think one movie would have been fine. It's not like shorter anime movies are unusual, so I do wonder if someone made a call that was more concerned with box office sales than where it would leave the tv series.

Back when the movies were first announced, I assumed that it meant that those would be separate from the tv show. It wasn't an idea I was thrilled with since getting movies here is incredibly spotty with Crunchyroll, but from a runtime perspective that seemed to make sense since it would leave plenty of time to cover everything else. Once I heard it was being repurposed for the start of the season, I expected it would cause pacing problems.

I suppose it all tracks with how Golden Kamuy has kept going despite having some sort of trouble with each season.

We're getting...something at least. Once again, this Final Season is being handled in a weird and vague way. We didn't know that the Sapporo Beer movies would be reused for the first four episodes until it happened. We didn't know how it was going to make it to the finish until we found out at the end of the winter season that there was more to come. Now, we don't know for sure what that means.
