This being officially announced as the actual start of the new story arc sure puts a lot of DT in perspective

Well... yeah, that happened.

The biggest surprise was that they also announced an Evangelion crossover event!

But it being the theme for Alliance Raids (which means it is going to stay up in game pretty much to it's EoS and not being a limited event, like what was with Yokai Watch) is most whammy part about it, not gonna lie.

And now it has a Switch 2 version coming because they want Japan's productivity to somehow hit negatives

I haven't played since Endwalker, but seeing the next expansion is the start of the new arc doesn't make Dawntrail that appealing to play whenever I get back to it :/
Maybe they'll adjust it so that you can move faster through the MSQ for that part...
Does this new teaser trailer (which I'm guessing is the intro video for Evercold) spoil anything for Dawntrail?
Shadowbringers was probably my favorite expansion, so seeing that Evercold is going to another shard is definitely enticing (along with the Evangelion raids as the Nier raids were a lot of fun). Hopefully it has a similar darker tone
Speaking of Shadowbringers, the free trial including that is crazy. That's a ton of free content. I'm surprised they're still adding more expansions to the trial honestly.
I'm not planning on playing on console, but it's too bad that you'd need a separate subscription for Switch 2. Hopefully that can be changed in the future (I think xbox originally also had a separate subscription initially?).

That's a great point. Being in the game permanently is a big plus. No need to rush to enjoy it or be worried about missing out.

Dawntrail was a huge disappointment. The one time they actually base something on Latin America, and it's an unmitigated disaster.
I'm definitely not going back to the game. Not even if I got paid a billion dollars.

Now that Final Fantasy XIV will arrive on the Switch almost all mainline titles are available on Nintendo consoles via backwards compatibility, the recent FFVII Remake Intergrade port and Rebirth arriving soon, the only mainline FF titles that have yet to appear on a Nintendo console are the FFXIII Trilogy, XV and XVI, though I don't know if the Switch can run, but if S-E is apparently trying to make FFVII Remake Part 3 run on Switch maybe XVI could arrive on the future, but I don't know.

Speaking about that, I remember tons of people wanting to play FFXIV on the original Switch, though I don't know if that system could've handled it, though some of S-E's developers said they wanted it to be available on a Nintendo console, but looking at some of the reactions towards the Switch 2 version, it seems people aren't very happy with the fact that they need a separate account to play FFXIV on the Switch 2. I'm not that familiar with FFXIV as with other games in the series, but I know it's an MMORPG, so I get that people wanted to use their own account, but Nintendo never allows this type of cross platform use. Still, don't thing this FFXIV SW2 is meant for people who already played it, it's more for Nintendo players that never played it before, a new audience. Just like the recent FFVII Remake port, can't imagine anyone outside of some hardcore FF fan to double dip for this version.

| Quote: | | The Switch 2 version will have its own monthly subscription fee, separate from the subscription fee for versions on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. There will be a discount for existing subscribers. |
Does it need a separate account or just a separate subscription? To me that reads that you can have the same account, but you'll have to be for two subscription fees (hence the discount).

Why do I keep seeing people say 8.0 is the start of a "new arc?" The new arc started in 6.1 going to the Thirteenth. The events in the upcoming 7.5 are quite obviously directly tied to that story, which is hilarious given that people also called that "filler." There is no filler, pretty much everything is important, even when it isn't immediately obvious it is.

They literally said in the keynote that we're now moving on to the new arc, the Godless Realms Saga. Take it up with the team if you don't like DT being called transitional filler lmao

Dawntrail, is on record, being on offshoot/follow up to EW/SHB where the Scions are all split off figuring out what to do going forward. This is probably why Yoshida spent so much of the DT's fanfest joking about it being a "vacation." It's also been shared before that DT's general flow and events, were written in guide lines by Ishikawa Natsuko aka the EW/SHB writer.
If you want to consider it a filler, then that is up to you personally, but if someone just skips DT thinking nothing important happens in it that, then I guarantee there'll be complaints in Evercold about not understanding why X happens or who character Y is because they didn't care to interact with any of DT's story.
