@Smurky - yah, the only thing they really did in regard to explaining the bloody conflict was talking about how "The village" kept sending assassins after her and her parents. As in, not the old lady in charge - the clan. But that's still vague. I don't even mind the idea that it's literally a clan war, but acting like we're supposed to find the girl with the familiars who make up a dark Pac Man - the one who was munching on people - sort of cute or charming is a bit odd to say the least.
The show is obviously taking the one-step-ahead-of-an-avalanche approach, where the MC gets plunged into one fight and flight after another while we find out about the players and the world piecemeal. I'm all for that if done well. The one false note for me was having the sister do a 180 between badass and stan. It was pretty clumsily handled IMHO.

I agree the sisters switches were clumsy, but that kind of comedy was pretty prevalent in FMA as well so I wasn't surprised (and its why FMA was never a personal favourite).
Its fun, light, breezy and pacy. I am here for an entertaining journey and this is being provided.
I have no fundamental confidence in the ultimate secrets working for me, though I'm prepared for them to do so, but I'm not too concerned if they don't so long as I have fun getting there; its fun moment to moment in itself, not leaning on mystery to generate false promises and interest.

I appreciate how Yuru reacted to Gaby since it shows that he is very much not chill with what they did to the village. The episode also made clear that he is not the stereotypical mc who is led by his anger, he is laser focused on finding his parents and is still so confused by the whole situation that he is not making any judgements for now. Add him being a pretty damn good hunter to that and I quite like him as the mc.
The enemies were quickly dealt with and given that they were a crew of mooks that makes sense. Stupid mooks given how they treated their deamon partners. Some of them were killed in a pretty brutal way.

Did I understand that right, that Asa was imprisoned like the fake Asa until her parents made off with her? I guess I'd thought they conjured her up after the real one was taken, and then locked her up so no one would notice she was a fabrication.
I assume the attackers' leader's swords are his daemon pair? Should be interesting seeing them in action. Also Asa's new pets are cuties when they're little.

I think it was indeed the case that real Asa was being held in that dark cell (explaining her fear of the dark and being alone) until she was freed. The fake one then being placed in the same cell to fool Yuru was quite the scheme.

The more I've sat on it the more I agree with Edjwald re; the strangeness of the characters who conducted a shock massacre for the opening becoming our protagonist hangout crew.
Maybe they'll address it eventually, and they do have them keep murdering people so its not like they are painting them as goody two shoes, but it is kind of strange. But, FMA did not dissimilar stuff so it wasn't unexpected. So long as it has fun designs and sequences moment to moment I'm enjoying it well enough.

I am glad that the episode finally addressed the Higashi village situation. Given the flashback and described events a significant portion if not all of the villagers were aware of the situation surrounding the twins. That includes locking up real Asa, placing fake Asa, going after/killing real Asa and brainwashing Yuru. That does not make the massacre any less brutal but to them they did not go in killing innocent civilians.
Some notes:
The Yuru flashback made clear why he (almost always) stays calm and is not one to just lash out in emotion.
I seriously question if those thugs who kidnapped and killed Asa had a plan. So you kill her in order for her to unlock a deadly power and then expect her to behave?
That dude with the moth is looking more sus by the episode.
That skull bridge was a creepy place.

I suppose that makes for the end of the prologue. We now have a basic understanding of the setting, the story and some of the factions involved in it. Of those factions there is not a good one so to speak, they are all doing shady shit. This week's episode had some good character moments including Asa and Yuru reconnecting plus the latter make his stance on how to proceed perfectly clear. He is not wrong that Asa has traded a small prison for a larger one but the future is likely going to be safer for her than him.

I really hope that the show will keep the split focus shown this week. Most anime tend to focus on one location with the main characters being there but switching between two storylines that may connect at times is often interesting. The episode itself was mostly slice of life downtime, I especially enjoyed Yuru learning a bit more about modern times and the gags that came with that.
The demons at the end are a good reminder that they are not all cute or cool.

Who's controlling them? The unconscious old lady is the only one left. How far from their master can daemons operate? How did they get in? How did they end up in the well without anyone seeing them? I obviously don't understand all the rules of daemons.

This week did not provide an answer to your questions Gina. It was not the old lady and while the two daemons were dealt with there was no clue to their master. Masters supposedly need to stay close by but even Yuru did not spot them and there were not that many places to hide. At least we know that Asuma sent those flunkies after Yuru, though the moth was already shown last week so no surprise.

Huh, that did not go the way I expected it to. I was wrong in saying that Yuru did not spot the master in question, he was found, it was no dangerous and secret third party though. Instead of getting introduced to some shadowy faction a new member to the family has been added and Dera has been portrayed as a deadbeat husband who cheats, gambles and has nothing to his name.
