I like Poem and Togo but I will admit that the show is at its best when other characters are also involved. Thankfully the show keeps on introducing new ones with Kikuka this week, the way she was introduced made me wonder if she was going to be a ghost somehow. Anyway, most of the characters are amusing and the show has plenty of them. The school visit was basically a taste of all the absurdity that it has to offer.

This is the second show this week where I thought the episode gave off distinct end-of-a- manga-arc-or-first-light-novel vibe. All the characters were reintroduced and sifted through and everything ended with a hint about what's next.
I thought Lil Sis Kiti-cuckoo was going to be a ghost-like character too, but it seems she's going to be as lackadaisacal as her brother is diligent.
What I like about the show is that despite all the absurdity and punching and yelling, the anime still manages to give off a pretty chill, sweet vibe when all is said and done.
I thought it sort of amusing that Lil Sis nutball was the one who adapted naturally to the insane asylum of a high school while Lyric-san - the closest to normal character that I've seen on this show - spent most of her time bewildered and alarmed.

I am impressed that the goofy opening was in fact relevant to the actual show. I am also impressed by the manga/bl club who seem to be so enthusiastic about bl that they can see it in any manga, no matter the actual content. The second half I really liked due to Tougo and Poem both showing what they are made of. The former decided that he needed to focus on his tests, even if it meant being a party pooper. The latter went to Tsukishima to help Tougo study. The council president also showed up for a bit to deliver some fanservice.

Yah, the anime's combo of sweet and goofy works for me. The show has a combination of elements from other anime, but it is its own thing in my opinion.
Most rom-com anime protagonists tend to be cowardly about love or pathologically dense about not being able to recognize love when it's hanging all over them. I am a little amazed at how openly and bravely the class monitor is in expressing his love for Poem-san - unlike most anime rom com males - while seeming to be unaware that he's in love with Poem-san at the same time, even denser than the other kind of anime rom-com male protagonists.
This episode succeeded in shuffling another oddball character in the mix - or a group of them I guess - with the BL manga club. I thought the riff on dedicated fujoshi enjoying themselves by reading homoerotic subtext into material instead of just going straight to the bom chika wow chika wow wow was funny.

I am glad that the beach/villa trip is not over yet because the episode was a lot of dumb fun. The klutzy trio kept things lively (including scaring girls away and wanting to use a bloody bat on watermelons) plus the relationship between the president and Kaoru is interesting. Not being able to recognize your childhood friend unless focusing on her muscles is quite the feat.

I enjoyed the indirect origin of the health monitor (IE, the pres going around beating up all the delinquents at neighboring schools) and I thought it was funny that the VP used to be a slightly pudgy artistic type before the president forcibly "recruited" him into her judo club.
I think the two younger sisters could provide some interesting storylines.

I love how they all think of the Shonan beach region as some place where morals are thrown out the window when all it is is a normal but popular beach area! Ah, teens!

This show should have been about the pres and vice pres.

I am unsure if Togo meant his statement at the end in a romantic way. The episode had him consider his own feelings and that flashback had him be honest about what he actually wanted to do despite it not being in line with the rules. That all sounds like he realizes how valuable his relationships with others are to him, not so much that he is romantically in love with Poem.

It would be a pretty radical step forward in terms of emotional growth if Togo did fully grasp the implications of that "I love you." It would also be material for an episode 11 rather than an episode 8 in the natural progression of these kinds of anime.
At the 2/3rds marker I'm still delighted by how easy and breezy and quirky and fresh this anime manages to feel.

Well, would you look at that, the confession was actually romantic in nature and they started dating this week. I love that the start of said dating was awkward as hell and very much in line with how they are as characters. They (especially Togo) are clumsy and thickheaded with expressing themselves and thus it took a bit to get the ball properly rolling. Keeping it a secret was doomed from the start with how Togo is, kudos to Poem for realizing that so fast.

I wouldn't worry so much about keeping it a secret from her friends, keep it a secret from her crazy father, that is my top priority.

Well, I was gobsmacked by the romantic progression- it's totally in character for Togo to be honest and direct once he realizes what his feelings are, but I wasn't expecting him to realize them and then jailhouse lawyer his way around "illicit" relationships so easily.
That said, I like the development. It's relatively rare for an anime to have a relationship move forward without a few seasons of complications and denials and hesitations and contrivances, but I can't think of many (maybe any) cases where the anime just skipped most of that and I didn't like it.
This show has been a pleasant surprise all around.
And Zfunk, good point. And now that I think about it, that kind of makes me wonder what kind parents produced somebody like Togo and his sister and if Poem-san is going to be meeting them soon...

Romantic progress has been made but it has not changed how Poem and Togo function. In other words: some conflict was bound to take place sooner or later given how they view certain things differently. I did not expect it to happen this soon though. Togo in particular will need to become a little more flexible in his thinking. Besides that it was a fun festival prep episode, excluding the vice president being the least likable character in the show.

I really liked the episode due to it focusing so much on the side characters. There were plenty of fun moments with the rap battle between dads being quite the surprise. Some side couples forming is also more than I expected from the show. As for Kaoru... all his points went to strength and into nothing else.
