I figured the whole point of the Minato/Koyuki connection was that Minato was going to learn that his weird, pity based connections weren't actually fulfilling for anyone. He has, and thats good, but in storytelling terms so abbreviated compared to the time we spent discussing him unlocking the keys to hearts earlier in the series.

I 100% expected that Igarashi wasn't going to be a bad guy, because that was just too obvious, but that Koyukis past behaviour would sort of mirror Minatos in some ways I did not forsee. I think thats interesting and a good choice.

Overall, I feel better about where the show is at now than earlier on. However, you can still really tell its a neophyte work as the methodology and pacing of the storytelling isn't quite where it could be.

What was in the bag? It looked like volumes of a sports manga. Was it the kawaii bag itself that embarrassed him? Why did he have to carry it for the other guy in the first place?

I'm pretty sure Igarashi was embarrassed by the bag: it was a cutesy hello kitty(-like) bag, which is probably not something a high school boy wants to be seen carrying around. As far as the contents, it definitely looked like volumes of a soccer manga. Considering that the other guy said "thanks for this" as he handed the bag to Igarashi, it seems likely that he was returning a bunch of manga volumes that Igarashi had previously lent to him.

I was not expecting the reveal that the problem Koyun had with Igarashi was that she felt guilty for dumping him harshly in saying she was never really interested in him. At the same time, Igarashi looked like he was playing games in trying to make Koyun jealous by pretty much gloating that other girls were interested in him, so in that way it kind of looks like he got what he deserved. By how embarrassed he was by holding the girly bag, pretending he didn't know who she was, and then saying something like "it is rich coming from you" when Koyun asked if he was enjoying high school, I think the guy is pretty insecure and immature.

Maybe I am misunderstanding, but it kind of looked he pressured her into dating him, love bombed and tried to make jealous, and then acted like she ruined he school life after she came out like she wasn't as interested in him. Koyun thinks she is the one to blame, when it should be obvious to anyone that she doesn't have the best social skills. People hoping to be friends with her should know she doesn't have great social skills so might be a bit blunt, or perhaps were trying to manipulate her for that thing. And I think so far where I would put Igarashi on that line.

10:

Besides the ending that I am not sure of if it is a bad thing or not it was a relatively fluffy episode. The gang had lots of fun in the amusement park, their second year class has a lot of familiar faces (barring one) and outside of the class some new characters are keeping things lively. I am slowly warming up to Minato since he is trying so hard to be cool while completely failing at it and struggling to keep his insecurities and jealousy in check. Regarding Koyun it is nice to see how much more open she is now versus the start of the show.

The thing I figured out from this episode is that one of the main reasons You and I Are Polar Opposites is so good is that it skipped all the stuff this show spent the first 9 episodes working through and got straight to the kind of fluffy goodness that this episode flounced around in for...umm, I'd say at least 19 of its 25+ minutes. I enjoyed it.

Also, at least two new characters got elevated as wingmen to the main cast, and I liked both of them (Miki's younger brother and Ms. Perks of Being a Wallflower).

Haha, yeah, he's much more likable when he's being a dorky teen who is perpetually frustrated and confused by himself.

Yota just being straight up murdered by Miki every single week is fun too. At some point that might get old, but that point is not this week. Poor guy.

So now we know why Igarashi told Minato that he didn't know anyone named Hikawa.

Akine called Koyun "Koyuki Yushiro". So it looks like Koyun's last name changed between Middle School and Highschool. Typical reasons for that are divorce (children take mother's maiden name) or remarriage (children take new stepfather's last name).

I think that I recognised that the white dog plush that was won is the mascot from YaIAPO. Although, probably not always the healthiest to keep comparing every possible cameo.

I agree that the fluffiness is good. Now that it is clear who is who's romantic interest, and there is less drama in favour of characters being friends, it feels comforting.

Still kind of confused by people apparently disappointed by how Miki acts.

But he did know her by that name. He clearly reacted to it when Minato asked him if he knew her. And if she did go by a different name in middle school, then he must've been keeping close enough tabs on her to at least know what name she was using now.

To borrow a Simpsons line, Miki is the cause of and the solution all of this show's drama. She doesn't need a wingman, she needs a better epiphany.

I thought she was a rowdy outsider in middle school, she became the school idol in her first high school year and now she's a literal boisterous cheerleader in her second year.

It's like she wants to be the center of attention but lacks the natural charisma Minato has.

Oh, you meant from the characters. I'd say they're more confused than disappointed.

@Dusky - I think Miki has gone from being someone that everyone thought was a saint to being a screwball. A likable screwball if meeting her for the first time, but her classmates might be having a hard time trusting the sudden transformation. They're probably wondering if it's trauma or dissociation or what it means if Miki was only pretending to be the person they knew the whole time. Yuta, Minato, and Koyun already knew the real Miki, so not only is it not a weird phenomenon for them, it's a relief.

Hmm, have to differ from the consensus here; I thought the first half of the episode was pretty dull. Polar opposites fluff contained real insights in a low key way, and also had much tighter comedy writing. This was just pretty plain romcom stuff; without the slightly more dramatic tone of the rest of the show it just felt a bit exposed. Second half of the episode was fine enough!

It used a lot of the early episodes establishing characters individually and their platonic relationships with each other. They also did a pretty good job making the audience distrust Minato.

Now that it's aiming to make Minato a romantic interest he needs narrative rehab, which is what the first half of this episode is - we get to know things about him that Koyun would find attractive, because otherwise people would (and probably still will) argue that she should just try and get with Yuta or stay single.

Did the creator make this story like a character mystery on purpose?
Because a lot of information about the characters are withheld from us and slowly fed to us over the course of all these episodes.

I don't mind it, I quite like it. It is a whole different show than Polar Opposites. And there's really almost nothing that can top that show really. I've seen about thirty years of high school romance/drama/SOL anime series so from me it's high praise. It's a bit harsh to compare this to that gem, but well it is the same writer so I can understand.
The new kouhai with the pink/red eyeshadow seems to be a cute girl, even though Koyun is terrified because she knew her sister.
I like that Koyun has multiple layers to her. I wouldn't have thought she'd be the type to spoiler[expose her bully.] Takes guts.
