I shouted when I saw this during the Nintendo Direct (of all places). I can’t believe they had this in their back pocket.

If only we had a release date.

I want to be excired, but pandora's box has just been opened. The I-III promo image is AI art, and unmistakably so. I... do not feel good about it. At all. Any hype I've had for KHIV since KHIII has been mushed into this pool of anxiety I have over AI art. It's not a pleasant feeling when it hits one of your favorite stories.

-Sees the I-III box art has AI slop on it-

Ew, SqEx.

Also, I can imagine Sony and Geoff Keighley wailing in despair over that announcement. Sony because, yes, Nintendo is going to be treated as seriously as the PS5. And Keighley because he not only had this announcement not at his show, but Nintendo did it to show that, yes, they will not return his calls.

Just so everybody knows: it's not "unmistakably" AI art, that's just people jumping the gun for something that could be as simple as "a junior artist got lazy with the backgrounds and traced over game screenshots"

-Looks at SqEx messing around with the Slop Factory as of late-

I mean, it could also be "junior artist got lazy and used AI." Not just the background either, Donald has different numbers of fingers for each hand his beak looks weird.

And an unfortunate part of AI is that paranoia surrounding it has led people with little to no understanding of art to see what could easily be basic human error (or just stylistic choices) and go "this must be the work of AI because it vaguely looks 'weird' to me". Same way as people cried and moaned about the Sekiro anime being AI because they saw in-betweens for the first time in their lives

The art in question looks consistent with Nomura's contemporary line work, or the work of junior artists emulating his style like in Duellum. And it takes more than "vibes are off" to make a definitive claim otherwise

Edit: also, here's someone showing how the backgrounds were screen grabs put through filters in a more substantial way than someone saying "well I don't like it so it must be AI generated":

I have had plenty of actual artists break it down (like this thread: https://bsky.app/profile/kahene.bsky.social/post/3mnuxjmnles2q) and the consensus is "not entirely AI, but clearly AI assisted in order to switch around character positions from the original art." It's why you have weird inconsistencies like with Donald's hands. So Shame on SqEx

That is like getting mad at them using photoshop filters, it's a basic tool that doesn't involve generating anything and has been around forever. At some point you lose the plot on why you are even taking issue with AI in the first place lmao

Pretty sure they’re not especially since Kingdom Hearts hasn’t been a Sony exclusive since Chain Of Memories dropped on the Gameboy Advance.

If I'm not mistaken, the only mainline KH game that got a multiplatform release was KHIII, the series itself originated on the PlayStation 2, so most people tend to associate the series with Sony, though there's plenty of spin-off on Nintendo consoles. But still, even after Sora was added to Smash Bros. back in 2021 the only way to play the series on Nintendo consoles was by the cloud version, and I don't think many people played it that way. I think this is another instance of Square-Enix trying to grow an audience for certain games on Nintendo consoles, just like they did with Final Fantasy VII Remake.

It still feels unreal that KH4 was shown first on a Nintendo Direct instead of a Sony or XBOX showcase. I was already content with getting a proper port of the previous games but then they showed the KH4 tand I almost shouted

I would feel better if there were updates or actual new features to improve the experience. I would be happy to have the ability to experience the gameplay of 358/2 Days and Re:Coded as an alternative to just having Cinematic Movie version so they can be on modern platforms, which only require minor changes to fit better with those systems.

Pretty much the Cinematic versions lack the gameplay thrill of the originals and they are stuck on the Nintendo DS. Also while there are illegal PC updated versions, I prefer official alternatives as that method is too risky on multiple fronts.
