Did something change at Cartoon Network? The two episodes currently airing of Naruto are very heavily edited compared to the former light edits. Flashing stars when people get hit; saying "that knocked you out" when someone gets slashed by a sword; Naruto's Sexy Jutsu having horrible red dresses badly painted on, what's going on here? Naruto used to push the boundaries, they even had an episode a few weeks ago that featured content warning, but it looks like after a few years of consistently light edits it's now dumbed down the usual "child safe" edits. Too bad, even the filler doesn't deserve this kind of treatment. No wonder they aren't showing Once Piece, needs time to be edited down again...

I noticed that, too; especially all the red on the sexy jutsu.

Christ, I guess some guy with no life except to say what is "morally wrong" has hit Cartoon Network. People who think nudity is worse than violence should be smacked in the throat.

I haven't watched Naruto lately due to losing interest in it, so I haven't seen the edits. However, I think it's outrageous that this is happening considering Naruto had been on air for years with minor edits. I have two theories for this:

1) Viz Media is now smoking crack and being idiotic.
2) The overprotective parents are sending phone calls and complaining about the mature contents on Naruto despite the fact that one episode had a graphic content warning.

I'm sure that one of my theories is correct, or maybe it's both. Either way, this is just plain stupid.

Hmmm... it seems that this heavy editing has a precedent.

This video explains it better than I ever could:

I must have missed a lot in the last three weeks or so since I forgot to watch the episodes that are piling up on my DVR box. o.o Sexy jutsu in red dresses? Sword slashes becoming like knock out punches? I really need to watch those episodes now to figure out what the frick Viz and Funimation are thinking.

-laughs still at the content warning- I was waiting for the Episode 140 dub just to see how much that would be messed up. When I saw the warning though, I just busted up cause I knew then the episode was going to be just as good as the Japanese...without the reading. =P

And as for One Piece, I think it was put on hiatus because the VAs were going to dub all the original episodes that 4Kids messed up. But that's going by what I read. ^^;;

^Funimation has nothing to do with Naruto, and One Piece shouldn't have red dresses painted onto people, unless they actually are wearing red dresses.

I really hope this is a Cartoon Network thing, and not a Viz thing, as that means us Canadians will have to deal with edits that usually have no bearing in this country(past edits done by CN, like airbrushing blood to skin colours, have not apeared in our broadcast).

BTW-The thread title mislead me to believe Naruto was starting to air UnCut. But I'm half asleep.

ya lol that's what I thought the title meant also. Things like this turned me off to dubs back in Kenshin and DBZ, but it wasn't nearly as bad as this sounds. Don't blame the overprotective parents, blame Cartoon Network for listening to them. I'd love a channel that just gave em the finger and aired Ep1 of Elfen Lied just to spite them

It might have something to do with that kid dying.

Either way, I think you're all overreacting a little. So there's a few more edits that really aren't all that "heavy." OK, yeah the red dresses were bad, but it's not like the whole scene was removed.

What is wrong with you people? Do you take any opportunity to jump up and declare "Oh no, it's Censorzilla! Scream and run about randomly! AAAAAAAAHHHH!" I mean seriously, dial down the adrenaline a little.

For those who didn't catch this week's Naruto: There are two scenes that people are talking about here. One is from episode 160- second of a two part story featuring a bounty hunter with an old west theme. During a rather tepid fight scene, the guest star hits a random mook with his sword, across the abdomen IIRC. Mook falls down, out of the fight, and guest star says "Well, he's out cold."

I don't know why people even consider this a cut- possibly it gave some people DBZ flashbacks, but it's not like he disemboweled the guy. And given that the action in the episode in question was kid-gloves stuff, I'm not inclined to believe that it happened any differently in the original unless someone posts proof. (I'd post proof myself, but I can't find the original, and even if I could I don't know Japanese.)

The other point of contention is a scene from the next episode, 161, which deals with bumbling infiltrators impersonating Rock Lee and Guy. In one scene Naruto uses harem jutsu, and the clones materialize wearing digital-paint underwear. So, no TG asses or titties for the fanboys. Big whoop. This is actually par for the course for Naruto- up until this point they've done the same thing in the original, only using smoke or other clones for the coverup. And as I've told others- if cutting boobs that were gratuitous in the first place is a big deal, just get some real porn.

Sheesh.

People are crying out "EDITING!" and "COWARDICE!" and "MORAL GUARDIANS!" I'm hearing a bit of "VIVA LA REVOLUTION!" too, but in my opinion the appropriate rallying cry at this point is "OVERREACTING FANBOYS!" I mean seriously, you get your panties in a bunch because some hot chick who's really a dude gets told to cover up? It's a trivial thing, people. Don't tase them...

Bellos, I'm not against edits on TV, but there's a right and wrong way of doing edits. What we've had since 2005 was the right way of doing it. slight language edits, lessening blood (and only rarely removing it), and few minor visual changes that are well blended. What we got this week was much more careless, they type of edits that this series had been above for so long now. To go from one arc where funerals and talks of death were common to another where we're getting knockout sword slashes makes these changes much more noticeable. The next arc will also talk a lot about death so I'm curious how they intend to handle it, I think that arc will tell us what we're up against. Maybe they just don't feel it isn't worth taking the same care with filler as they did before.

I wonder if they're not overreacting now that that kid ended up getting himself killed trying to imitate a Naruto attack. It's hard to say, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if CN decided to play it safe or some interest group contacted them as a result of that event and threatened action if they didn't do something. Unfortunately they are both very realistic.

That'd be pretty dumb if they were doing it because of the imitation. Doesn't the fact that they call it "knocked out" instead of "dead" make the impact less? I fail to see how making the terms & graphics lighter and softer is supposed to result in kids seeing the repercussions of that kind of activity more realistically. If anything the effect is likely the opposite.

I wonder if us Anime fans actually protested such edits.

That thought of organization is unpossible!!

Well somtimes sacrifices has to be made to not get a company sued [which CN has been sued MANY times before with past anime]

But can't you just buy the un-cut version and live happy with it
D;

Sorry.I don't watch Naruto Anime smallmouth;;;

Yeah, maybe cartoon network is trying to play it safe. Does anyone know how common it was back int he 90's for kids to die from "immitating" a cartoon (Batman, Beast Wars, Spiderman, etc.)? Cartoons back then were certainly more violent than they are today.
