Whatever he does, it's better not be animated in that horrific design/style that he had IG do O-Ren's backstory in.

I'd have to agree with you on that one. I really disliked the design, the use of color, the way the faces were drawn. I couldn't help but think that this was a pretty piss poor example of what anime is. |

It wasn't anime. It was planned, written, boarded, and probably designed by Americans.

Granted. My intent was to state that for many, this is an "example" of what anime is. It's likened to it, and it was touted to the media and public that it used an anime scene. I was merely trying to state that it's a shame that so many people who would see this movie but don't know much about anime would see this as their introduction to anime. It leads back to the stigma that it's full of violence, but it also adds to it the thought that anime is ugly to look at.

Gotta have to agree with cyrax here. And while I agree that it's not the best representation of anime for those who know little about it (I think what Godaistudios is talking about here is the fact that for many years many people thought that all anime was like "Ninja Scroll" - vexteremly violent and full of sex/nudity). But what else did you expect from a movie like Kill Bill (something like My Neighbour Totoro maybe Bottom line is: I don't care what it is - I know I liked it. |

I kinda have to agree with Proman here. What we saw was an animated segment in an American live action movie. In a sence it was no different than what Toei was doing in the 80's with american cartoons, the only thing about it that was japanese was the studio that animated it. To call that segment "anime" would be to call every american cartoon that has looked to japan to be animated an anime. That doesn't really cut it with me. For me it's just a piece of animation that just happened to be animated in Japan. With or without that in mind I really enjoyed the segment, maybe I like it more when an animation studio does something other than the cookie cutter anime "styles" were used to seeing.

Anime can only be created by Japanese. It is animation created specifically for the Japanese market by Japanese creative teams. For exampleWonderful Days is not anime. It is created by Koreans for Korea, even though many of the studios that worked on it cut their teeth on anime inbetweening and it shares many stylistic elements. |

I'm not so fimiliar with this kinda stuff, but what I'm seeing is another way to make America anime friendly.
I also think this guy is smart by doing this . He makes a movie that becomes popular then introduces a cartoon (the anime) so that it gets more popularity. Just look at Star Wars. They've started to make cartoons based on the second movie to appeal even more to a younger audience. |
