I was wondering, I purchased my first ever Manga the other day after an eternity walking into the Manga store to buy Anime from the back of the store.

I purchased a collection of 1-3 Telepathic Wanderers (just need to get vol 4 now)

But i finished Vol 1 in about 10 minutes flat and Vol 2 the same, Is it just the pace of this manga that means it is so quick to read or are they all like 3 minutes worth of anime per volume?

I usually spend somewhere between 45 minutes and 90 minutes on each volume of manga I read, which is perhaps why I don't read as much manga as the average guy in these forums (and perhaps why I don't spend much time in the manga section Razz).
Having said that, it might also be because the manga that I read are Hellsing (where I spend a long time looking at the very, very detailed artwork), Nana (where I spend a long time absorbing the well-conveyed facial expression), Fruits Basket (where I have to frequently pause to alternately weep and laugh my ass off) and Full Moon (where I have to pause occasionally to contain my Mitsuki fanboyism).

Personally, I can't even imagine finishing a volume of a manga in only 10 minutes, so either you're reading an insanely fast-paced manga or your reading style is just very quick in comparison to mine.

It depends on whether I like it or not. Usually I'll speed through it because I'm too anxious to see what happens next, but sometimes I'll stop, then take it up again, then stop...etc.

With a series that I have had for awhile, I usually just browse through a little slower, since I'm just rereading to enjoy it Smile

If it's something new, as in my first time reading, assuming we're talking about an approx 180-190 page book, it's usually 45-60 minutes if I like it, 75-90 if I'm a little confused and am reading it slowly, or less than 20 minutes if I cannot stand it and put the thing down. I'm usually a pretty slow reader, although I don't usually stop to see the artwork no matter how good or bad it is (or as I call it, The Robotech 1980's Broadcast Version rule: art doesn't matter if the story is good and it's merely icing when it is), I usually just have to be able to tell who is who.

If I'm re-reading something that I don't have to pause and take time to appreciate jokes or something or if it's something like "Gon or a shorter book like What's Michael?, it can be cut down to 20-30 minutes. Then again, I'm currently re-reading Banana Fish and it's still taking me about 40 minute per book, so I guess it did cut down about 10-15 minutes or so. Being able to read it in less than 1/2 hour is still unusual for me, everything takes at least 40 minutes it would seem. I'm a slow reader and I'm sure I suck at it too, but I still enjoy reading manga.

I seem to have a limit of 4 books in a row though, afterwards I start to see words everywhere and it annoys me, so I need to take a break no matter how much I like the series and watch TV or play games for an hour or 2.

I always hear about people finishing a volume in just a few minutes...and I just can't imagine it. I mean stopping to stare at the artshould add to the time at least. I can't help but feel that if you're reading it that fast you're not giving the art or the story the attention they deserve. Personally, I never finish one in a single day. If I'm up to date with a series, I usually read one chapter a week(so as to lessen the wait between volumes), and even if it's something old, I'll usually try to spread it out over a few days.

If its a manga I enjoy I can finish it in roughly 30 min. If its something boring I take longer to finish it and it would take me about 45 minutes. Im not the fastest reader ever but I like to relax and enjoy my manga, not rush through it to finish it.
Very Happy

If I can't stand the manga, 10 minutes. Otherwise it takes me about 30 minutes per volume.

My favorites, though, I like to absorb the artwork (since that's pretty much a requirement for me to actually read it). Sugar Sugar Rune for the ridiculously detailed and childish fantasy backgrounds, The Gentlemen's Alliance and Fruits Basket for its characters, Shugo Chara! for its fashion, and Gakuen Alice just because its fun. Normally this takes about an hour.

Wow 10 minutes! I've never done that. For most Jump manga such as Claymore or Black Cat it is about 30 minutes. But other manga such as After School Nightmare, Hellsing, or Death Note it is about 45 to 60 minutes (oddly enough Hayate is included in this time frame). The longer time frame comes from more dialogue and more detailed panel work.

But in the case of Hayate - I have not clue why it takes 60 minutes to read one vol.

I was trying to think of the manga that it took me the longest to read that is the about 180 page length, and that surely goes to Cromartie High School. Despite the chapters each being about 6 pages long (that's 3 pages front and back), it takes me somewhere around 8-10 minutes to finish most of the chapters (5 at the least). This is because it is incredibly dialogue heavy (there's a lot of text bubbles) for one thing and the art in Cro High isn't something you stare in pretty awe at so , it's just there to help deliver the punchline. The entire manga experience is ages different than its anime counterpart (not that I don't enjoy that too and many different things happen in both) and I do love them both, but I don't think I can finish any book in that series (except the first one since I've read it several times, possibly the second) in under 90 minutes (I'll say 90-120 minutes). I usually don't read it in big chunks either, just a little bit here and there which adds up quickly.

Depending on the length of the manga volume, it normally takes me about a hour or slightly more to read every chapter. Fruits Basket and Kare Kano normally take me about 45 minutes to an hour to get through. My two volumes of Azumanga Daioh, on the other hand, take me just over an hour to get through since there's more pages in them than the two above.

I usually take about half an hour to read one volume of manga. Although if the manga volume contains mostly pictures of action going on (Berserk for example), I could be done with the volume in half that time. If there is a lot of text and I actually try to read it all, then I can take forty-five minutes to an hour to read the entire volume. In this case, Death Note comes to mind. And then there are volumes where I will read everything, but I am so caught into the series that I just have to read into the next page, chapter, or volume right away. Hence, my manga reading record is 12 volumes of manga in two hours. The series in question is called Life.

Depending on length, amount of dialog, and quality of the artwork, I usually finish a volume of manga anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. Examples: I can read Love for Venus quickly, but Death Note would always take me longer.

It depends.... I find in a series I know well PLUS having more art than dialogue, takes me a VERY short time. I remember reading the 1st volume of .hack//GU in maybe 5 mins or so? VERY little dialogue in it. However, the norm for me is about 20 minutes, usually for a series I don't know much about and have to play it out like a movie where you can actually hear the voices in your head and pace yourself with the story. I read fast, so little dialogue for me does NOT = uninteresting, it just means I can basically browse through it (once again, especially if I know the storyline).

Well i think some information about me might help. I am a speed reader averaging about 3000 wpm.

The action in Telepathic Wanderers is fast paced and a fair amount of dialog although not much per frame.

i don't read manga fast. i always look at the artwork before i go onto the next pannel. don't anylize every aspect of it but i glance at it. if i really the art in that one picture i could spend 10 whole minutes justt looking at it. I generally read a volume in about 45-60 min. not because im a slow readr but u have appreciate it. if i rush through i don't get the same feeling. but something with alot of action thats serilized in shonen jump takes me less. like a bleach chapter sometimes i'll read in 10 minutes because the action is fast and i have to keep up. and every volume of manga holds about 2-4 episodes of the anime.
