Wow this sucks...not surprising given it's a recession, and the economy's so bad that an anime hall of fame was unconceivable. Oh well let's save money on more important things and wait until there's enough money.

True but i have a nasty feeling that politics were involved in this.

I really hoped it happened though.Would've loved to see that.

This is not surprising as that project was a white elephant anyway. If it did go ahead, what would that make, the third, or fourth anime museum there?

What was so controversial about it anyway? The only controversy I see is spending all that money on anime instead of more important matters like education and health.

You're close. The controversy was spending all that money on a building site for anime, when it would be better spent on building sites for the other things you mentioned, or invested in transport infastructure upgrades. I too liked Former PM Aso, but even I felt this was a bit of an own goal.

So I was a little off. However, I agree that the location should have been for education or health. Put the museum near someplace like Akihabara.

Yeah, it's more so about politics and that the outgoing party and their PM was for this. I find Japanese politics rather foreign yet interesting. While browsing at a market, I noticed the cover story of The Economist was about the new election. So I picked it up. Interesting read.

Mixing politics with anime fandom is a really screwy combination. I wish we would get a big anime museum in the US. Heck, if it was in Arizona, it would be more convenient for me.

I am not particularly saddened to hear this news. In the Japanese case, less speculative options for economic recovery exist, anime fans presumably having other means to support both their fandom and their economy.
Elsewhere, in the foreign markets from which the "soft power" of anime can potentially profit, I'd assume a museum would have been of little effect.
