Does anyone know which anime was Gainax's first work? If it is listed in the encyclopedia, the appropriate anime doesn't have a date attached to it.
--EDIT-- By crossreferencing the AniDB, I found it to be Daicon Films Last edited by kusanagi-sama on Tue Jan 11, 2005 1:08 am; edited 2 times in total |

Wasn't it like Daicon 4 or something, the one with the flying surfing bunny girl (which made its way into FLCL and Melody of Oblivion

The Daicon 3 opening animation (August 1981) is the first known animated work produced by Hideaki Anno, Hiroyuki Yamaga and Takami Akai, who went on to found Gainax; at this time, they were all still in college.
The first anime actually produced under the Gainax name is Wings of Honneamise. |

Just to mention, Daicon was also was featured in GAINAX's "semi-autobiographical" Otaku No Video. spoiler[ (It was the first animated hit for "Giant X" in the More Otaku No Video 1985 OVA.)] |
