So, how are you guys handling the blu-ray/dvd distinction when shelving? I currently have my anime DVDs separate from my regular DVDs... and then have a separate blu-ray section, but anime blu and regular blu are together. I am not entirely happy with that set up... but don't know that I want to start mixing blu-ray titles in with DVD titles.
It seems from looking at various Shelf Life collections that for other formats (say, VHS or Laser Disc) that the collector keeps them in their own section. But blu-ray seems a bit different since it is still a disc and regular DVDs play on blu-ray players.
In which case I almost feel I could mix the blu ray in with the DVD...?
I know there is no right answer here... and I'm not looking for someone to tell me what to do... I just want to hear about what other people are doing with the bluray/DVD distinction.

I haven't purchased any anime BD just yet, but I know that when I do they will be part of their own separate section, just as my remaining handfuls of VHS anime are. One reason being that the cases just look so different that it'd be awkward looking to me to have the BD next to the DVD, etc.

Why not mix? It's not difficult to tell them apart from the binding.
I can understand other forms of media, but it just seems to me it's tedious to separate out anime DVD. I can understand the movies separation as I do the same.
I'm currently looking for a good DVD/book case so I can put all my anime together. I have a wall shelf, but it has reached its capacity limit. That, and it has no room for my figures.
Good luck with your decision.

u should seperate your animes from other things like ps3/xbox games and movies. i always keep all my animes and manga together. for me its more fun to look at it that way and ill just arrange them numerically by seasons/volumes so when i looked at it. and i keep unnecessary things away and put em in a box or something

I keep my anime separate from my regular TV and movie DVDs. Now that I'll be collecting Blu-ray, I'll probably just start building blu-ray at the beginning or end of each section. I don't like how the cases are shorter than regular DVD cases to intermingle.
May change my mind later, but for now, that'll do.
As for type of bookcases, I just use IKEA bookcases. The Billy and the Kilby lines.

Most of my shelfing is IKEA based. I do my best to keep things seperated by type, but space issues keep me from doing it very well (I have videogames in 3 different spots, depending on the system, for example.)
I don't currently own any Blu-ray, but I imagine the divisions would either be Regular Blu/anime blu/regular DVD/anime DVD, or regular Blu/regular DVD/anime blu/anime DVD.
But that's just me, I like to over organize when I can.

I get these cheap 6ft book shelves from walmart, and then I go next door to homedepot and have them cut me some extra shelves out of a piece of long finished particle board. I use a simple drill and some dowels to add extra shelves to each unit.
As for my Bluray anime, I keep it on the top shelf for now apart from the others. Might mix it in when I have more.

I have been meaning to ask this question and instead of making a new thread, I will ask it here. I am looking for a quality shelf that has doors and a walnut finish. If anyone can direct me to one, I would be appreciative.
