Not in a million years.

If an RPG couldn't make it over here then this game doesn't stand a chance.

what rpg? if there's nothing unique about it other than the anime it's based on, then it's no suprise it didn't get over

but if this is a different genre then who knows...

The anime production committee behind The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya film is supervising the original story for this game. The game's story begins immediately after the ending of the film.

this makes it sound promising as a game itself

It's on a Sony console and it's by Bandai, there's next to no hope this will come out in English.
Having a strong plot counts against its chances of getting localised; Sony have a thing against releaseing things without lots of gamplay outside Japan.
Namco Bandai aren't exactly doing well atm, especialy as regards to localising things.

^ Dude that is EXACTLY why! If you guys want Namco Bandai to bring over anything from Japan just forget it.

One Piece Unlimited Cruise Episode 1
One Piece Unlimited Cruise Episode 2
Tales of Graces

All these guys care about are Dragonball Z, Naruto and stupid cooking games seriously? What do they have for the 3DS? Some sorry racing game and Tales of the abyss. Capcom/Nintendo/Level 5 and I am sure SEGA are all on top of the new console. No 3DS Haruhi? Really?

Wikipedia lists six Haruhi Suzumiya video games already, including a version of Day of Sagittarius III for the iPhone (the only one available in English). They seem to be mostly along the lines of visual novels or text adventures, not really RPGs as we know them.

It's available on PS3 and PSP so if you can understand at least spoken Japanese, this game should be playable

Yeah, I'd still play haruhi once it's released here in the US.

Since it's by the same people who did the Disappearance movie, should I expect 10 hours of gameplay consisting of Kyon walking around school and moping?

Would it be a bad thing if it turns out to be just that?

So setting aside the reality that this will never be brought over here. . . .

IF the Japanese were willing to license this to someone for localization, are there any numbers floating about for what that would cost? I often find myself envious of the Japanese getting to have so many anime-related games while no export for us remains close to a actual corporate policy.

What exactly goes into localizing a game anyway? (Yes, I know the basics of translation and such but what does that really entail? How extensive and expensive is it?)

I mean, is localization a PSP/PS3 game like this a multi-million dollar deal or a thousands of dollars range deal?

For die-hard Haruhi fans, probably not. For everyone else, I'd say they'd quit around 3 hours in.
