Was I the only one who had a major issue with the ending of this episode?
[episode All seems well when Yuu turns over slightly and grins at Kusanagi. She realizes too late that Yuu has a backup plan. Yuu squeezes the flowers clenched in his left hand, and a massive explosion rocks the memorial site, seemingly resulting in the deaths of Kusanagi, Batou, and just about everyone else in attendance.
The fact that they never really explained how [episode Kusanagi and Batou survived really bothered me -- overall because of this the episode really makes no sense to me, am I missing something obvious, or is there any other explaination for what Kenji Kamiyama intended with this ending?

It's all a fictional scenario they uploaded into the kid's memory.

Yeah, those are his memories of what happened, fake memories, given to him by Section 9, while his real self is fine and in lying in the hospital. When he wakes up it will be a different person not the father father/son hybrid.
