Well I finally got my hands on a copy of it, and had a chance to watch it this morning. I must say that while I liked it I think it could have been better. Did anyone else feel like they just missed the epic feeling the creators were trying to pull off? And I wasn't all that thrilled about the action scenes either. But overall I liked it and hope that we get a follow up. Anyone else's thoughts?

While I personally haven't seen it and am not planning on it, one of my best friends got it a couple days ago and he called me up to tell me how horrible, rotten and awful it was. Cheap animation, horrible story, just all around bad. He was going to go sandblast his eyes.

So pretty much what I was expecting.

I can't agree with that. Yeah it could have been better, but it was tons better (IMO) then the appleseed CGI was. And the story wasn't bad at all if you followed the Robotech stories. But I think for a lot of people this would be better as a rental.

As a standalone RTSC wasn't that great of a movie, doesnt wrap up anything and only asks new questions. And people who haven't seen the series will be at a total loss. Now if RTSC is a pilot for a new TV series, or OVA's or maybe more movies, then it was excellent.

The movie had excellent animation, though the space combat scenes could have been a bit more interesting.
The Voice acting was done pretty well
The music was excellent

and ZOMFG we got to see Rick Hunter again! Though now he's old and has a different character design, presumably due to some sort of licence issue.

I'd love the have a new series, I got the feeling that maybe they were either going for that or maybe a series of movies.

Yeah it was strange seeing Rick like that! Man the guy looked like he was pushing spoiler[80! And where was Lisa! I wanted to see some more interaction between the 2 of them.][/spoiler]

Everybody had a different character design. That was what really bugged me. The really stupid part was the fact that characters that had only appeared in The Sentinels and therefore had no licence issues still had new character designs.

Rick is pushing 55 years old, and gone through a hell of a lot, so I can understand him looking a bit older. Scott Bernard looked mostly the same. I like Louis' new design alot.

Oh and if you read the comic 'Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles' you can see Lisa.

I've been trying to buy them for a while now, but the dude at the comic shop says he can't get them for some reason, and I always get out bid at the last min on ebay.

I'm just going by what I was told, I had no interest in seeing Shadow Chronicles before, I have even less interest now.

The sad part is it was a lot of fun to sit around and plot out Sentinels with Carl Macek back in the day, there were a lot of good ideas that could have made a great story, the overwhelming majorty of them got left in the dust.

I thought this was resoundingly mediocre, and a general mishmash of... mishmashery. Anime style heads on late 90s American style bodies (do none of these women own underwear? Srsly.) designs "borrowed" from every decent science fiction series from about the last 15 years, plot potentially stolen from Battlestar Galactica, computer animation that would have been really cool five years ago... I can't think of what the new villains reminded me of. HAL 9000? Daleks? The thing I have to put my card into at the parking garage? And I have never noticed so many teeth in an animated space opera epic before. USE PEPSODENT! RRR! Something like that. And for all the hype that Mark Hamill got, he had what... three lines? And one of them was GAH!

...but then again, my 11 year old thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever let him watch, so who am I to judge?

I'm not ashamed that I bought it or anything, but I do kind of wish it had been five or ten bucks cheaper. Or free. Free would have been ok.
