Wow. I wonder if this will really become a 2 cour in the future. If so, I'd welcome it if the OVA is successful.

The OVA is already successful, they don't need to prove anything after they've already gathered the money. OVAs of the past had to prove themselves first before they could start making profits or later episodes. If your OVA was unliked, it got no buzz and few sales, so future episodes were unlikely.

That summary sounds quite bold, I wonder what kind of reactions it will cause if/when it comes out, when the basic premise is that Tokyo will get blasted to oblivion on the upcoming 2020 Olympics.

Wow this is some news. It seems like the whole online distribution is taking a new turn.

I think the headline
Quote:
Under the Dog Producer: Netflix, Crunchyroll Offering OVA Distribution

is misleading given the quote
Quote:
We have been in talks with distribution channels such as Netflix, GoG, and Crunchyroll. Obviously we cannot relay the specifics but needless to say there is significant interest in fresh content.

"Offering" and "in talks with" are two different things.

Sounds great! I'm all for a throwback to some of those classic sci-fi anime films, I've been craving something new of the sort for ages. Plus, the names attached to it are impressive as well. Loved Fire Emblem's character designs, so it's cool that this has the same designer working on it. Personally, I'd prefer a film trilogy, but that's just my own personal preferences. I like things that I can sit down and watch in one convenient sitting. But a two cour anime series would be just as good.

Now that the project has reached the goal, I await to see how the show will be done. I'm presuming that an OVA or two may be all that I see of Under the Dog unless it catches on in popularity.

Went with 300 USD. 200 USD going for that damn figure. It's low limited quantity.

The idea of Netlfix actually producing its own anime sounds too cool to be true...

This is what I was hoping would happen: success on Kickstarter leading to increased interest from other sources and, hopefully, leading to more anime delivered through this route. Getting Crunchyroll and Netflix aboard in the content creation side of the business would be pretty big, too.

The article and AMA only mentions "distribution." It also wouldn't be the first time Netflix has directly licensed anime for distribution on their service. Knights of Sidonia and (presumably?) Hunter x Hunter are two examples.
