I thought the first western country to adopt this would be America, then again cafes are very popular in the UK.

I shall say this much. As business ventures go, this is certainly a bold one. Given how much of a niche service this is, I would imagine that an emphasis on convention appearances would be needed to avoid relying on passing trade.
