What do you mean? Hitting almost half a million USD in the first weekend seems pretty solid with 76 theaters. I would expect this to make somewhere near 10 million USD overall. Depending on reception. One nice thing about Japanese theatrical releases is how quickly reputation can build. Both A Silent Voice and In This Corner of the World had massive increases in their box office numbers after getting pretty universal praise from early viewers. Not to mention Your Name. This one seems to be really well liked so far, from the review here as well as impressions from friends in Japan at the moment. Okada's last stand alone film Anthem of the Heart also did close to 10 million at the box office. |
