I really enjoyed this volume, even though I was going in with the knowledge that it wouldn't be much like Yuri on Ice just because Mitsurou Kubo worked on both of them (though there is that one funny touch in Yuri on Ice where Minami and the Nishigori triplets form an ouendan to cheer for Yuuri at the GPF). I really like Kubo's art, and it's great that this series and Moteki have official translations now so that her past works can get more attention.
I think the first time I learned about ouendan was from hearing about the DS game Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, which is what the game Elite Beat Agents is essentially an American version of. It's interesting how different the concepts of Japanese and American cheerleading are, which Again actually touches on a bit with the tension between the school's cheerleading team and the ouendan. |

How the heck did this slip by my radar?
Women in Ouendan is my thing...I'll have to scour a Book-Off for this! It's been too long since the likes of Fure Fure Shoujo and Dragon Girl. |
