The original 1985 OVA was by far the best in the series.
I didn't like the abrupt break from the original art style in Part II. I preferred the Mikimoto character designs from the original OVA over the "realistic" art style of Part II. It felt trashier as well as looking trashier, too. The third OVA was a major disappointment because of the way the original protagonist was treated and how the final project just crashed into a brick wall. It's one of many OVA series that ran out of story ideas midway through the show. You could feel the enthusiasm for the series just completely evaporated at the end. That third OVA had one of the largest drop-offs in animation quality I've seen in any OVA series, too. I have no faith for the reimagined Megazone 23. We saw what happened with FLCL and what going back to the well 15-30 years later does with MANY franchises in areas of entertainment outside of anime. It's creatively bankrupt and very often the end product resembles the original series or movies in name-only. They sure aren't as good as the original shows and movies 90% of the time! |

That's interesting. I've never seen the original kanji credits before, as I think ADV redid them in English on the DVD.
