So what are they going to do with the manga? If Shueisha and Viz believe the manga is inappropriate for their international brand image, why would they publish it on their international platform in the first place? I mean....you would think that at this point, they should know very well what to expect from mangaka Kentaro Yabuki and his works...

Best case scenario would be moving the manga to another publisher, like what they doing with To Love Darkness, minus the simulpub fiasco

PS: I want to own the series in print, yet somehow Viz never gave me a chance to give them money. Oh well

Yeah this is pretty unacceptable. I don't read the series, but it seems obvious that it was hardly the surprise raunchy fest that Interspecies Reviewers was when it ended up getting pulled from a bunch of TV stations and Funimation. They should have 100% knew what they were getting into when simulpubing it and if it proved to be too raunchy later on they should have dropped earlier with an official statement. 73 chapters in and just now deciding it's too much to publish (and doing so by not saying anything and just not uploading the chapters) is ridiculous.

The agreement with To LOVE Ru and Darkness along with Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs is ancient history at this point, back in 2017. As for shifting to another publisher, the simulpub rights would be a trickier thing potentially to shift, though some speculate they might give the digital/physical volume rights, which would be a compromise, even if it means they're still saying "Eff you, we're against piracy, but give you NO other option when we just refuse to publish things we simulpubbed for over a year with no issues because it was ALREADY 18+ rating"

I gave them $7 for v1 that at this point, I'd rather have back and give to Seven Seas who aren't going to wuss out and not publish uncensored volumes physically. And Viz's digital only formatting sucks on their website, to be blunt

Closest they even came to a kind of censorship was chapter 59 of Chainsawman that they made 18+ restricted even though the series was ironically listed as Teen + when there's enough blood to fill a swimming pool in some fights. And the chapter just has sapphic content that doesn't even constitute nudity: they're just f*cking prudes, I'd bet it was the same for Mangaplus, because we don't want to offend the Westerners with lesbians!

The TL;DR on this is it's likely Apple regulations that are holding this up and likely not passing whatever internalized regulations they have. Recently Tumblr had to start censoring a serious amount of tags on their platform and from what people have said who used to do development/site maintenance, including app developer for it, it's due to Apple. And given the timing of that and these chapters not being published, I'm going to assume it's Apple causing the issue with this.

The problem with this, however, is it has a knock-off impact of affecting the Android app and the web interface for both Viz and Manga Plus. I'll note that Viz HAS censored the simulpublish chapters for sexual content in the past (and likely present) and the physical volume releases are at least uncensored. But in this case, it must be a problem where the content presented in it just simply would pass no matter what they do with Apple's regulations.

Either way, I'm like pretty certain Viz Media and Shueisha are not at fault for this and it's a case of Apple's policies getting stricter. There must be some internal reason why they can't just simply publish on the web interface, because it seems strange they wouldn't at least do that. Maybe agreements that have to be 1:1 identical to all platforms (this happens with console games sometimes, where Sony, Nintendo, and/or Microsoft will request parity). Again, I'm arm chairing it, but I'm not inclined to blame either Shueisha or Viz Media on this immediately, given both recent and past stuff Apple has done.

Japan may be brimming with mysterious monsters called mangaka, but the West has a special exorcist publisher force to counter the threat!

I see this Apple thing popping up alot and it makes no sense. Ayakashi was never at any point in time ever available through any app on either Android or Apple. It was only ever available through a web browser. Apple and Android restrictions do not apply. You can't even see ayakashi on the app

Is the web interface also Apple related? Because it can't be the app for AyaTri given it's Adult/18+ rating by Viz, which they seem to not give that often, like Chainsawman was Teen Plus, freaking several violent series tend to get that rating, though I own Hell's Paradise and that's Adult as well, rightfully so.

Chainsawman only had that one chapter, afaik, and that was absurd, given the volume release showed that there were no bare breasts at all, it was purely the sapphic implications from what I can gather (or "explicit" sexual stuff even with no visible genitals or bared breasts)

I just downloaded the App on Android. Its right there. It even tells you the most recent chapter will not be translated. Besides, even if triangle wasn't, buisnesses have a habit of preparing for the storm. Like the tumblr example, other apps have been shutting down content. I would agree with you if triangle truly was not on the app, or even if Tumblr was not having similar problems. Unfortunately, Apple constantly acts overly moral. The epic fiasco is a great example. However, I actually read the chapter.

Honestly, it made me uncomfortable, but really was not as bad as I was expecting. There is way worse stuff out there. The Index LNs can be way worse, and those are also on Apple's store, though who knows how long. I don't support censorship at all, but this seems like Jump was going to potentially lose tons of revenue if they took down Jump for one manga. Probably didn't feel worth the financial loss.

It's interesting. Really, many people do not care if something is censored. That may be selfish, but is true. I personally feel censorship is wrong, but if it isn't happening to them, its easy to not think about it. However, most people who pirate anime might continue to do so because of this decision. The people who are not phased by this are probably not on ANN, or passionately following news. They may not even realize this is happening. Those people were most likely never going to pirate in the first place. Not considering the people of many countries who have no ability to legally purchase manga.

As said before when they skipped 74, if they're not willing to show the manga the proper respect it deserves, they should drop it so someone else can, and so fans aren't given the runaround when they think chapters will be delivered. Absolutely shameful on the part of whoever is responsible for this mess.

Which only complicates things further when Viz will relegate something to 18+ web only for one chapter and Mangaplus never does that with any (unless they did refuse to show a chapter?)

Viz still out there trying to censor and sanitize manga in 2022.

I wonder how bad their new Fist of the North Star editions are. I doubt they'll even finish it, let alone get to Raoh.
