It will be interesting to see how many things like this are still around when tourism becomes more viable.

Even without the pandemic, the planned length of operation for this always did seem a bit short.

That's up to Kishida and it just seems to unlikely over the next year or more, which is disappointing to say the least. There seems to be no political will at all to reopen the country.
I note that the official program guide is bilingual (Japanese and English text throughout), so obviously the plan was to attract as many foreign tourists as possible.
