It's airing just a few months after S1, so it's clearly not a "second" season that was actually greenlit. Just one season split into two parts. |

Yes... That's exactly what they were saying. Even though it's called "2nd Season", they were saying that the timing of the production implies it was a single production split up to be promoted as two seasons, and not a normal "2nd Season" situation where its production was greenlit after the first. |

Split cour productions are becoming more and more the actual norm these days. The terrible way the industry is making it so that even consecutive 2-cour productions are getting hard to pull off. Different producers can either market them as 'second parts' or just another season entirely (like Bungou Stray Dogs is doing), but the point is that when you have two 'seasons' of the same series airing in the same year, it likely does not mean a new season was 'greenlit". Just means it was one season split for two airings because they did not have a reasonable schedule/resources to make all the episodes consecutively.
