I'm still watching Villainess is Adored, and the spike in its rating baffles me. I didn't think that episode did anything special, and the series as a whole has possibly the crappiest visuals of the season.

More generally, this is a rare season for me because I'm actually following 8 of the top 10 shows in the cumulative rankings but only two of the bottom 10. (More typically I have equal or greater numbers in the latter compared to the former.)

It's pretty clear to me that someone is somehow gaming the system (see also the huge leaps in Jack of All Trades, Cute Girl and RomCom). This was especially evident during the Olympics, when shows that were pre-empted still had 5-star ratings before they were pulled from that week's list (I know those don't count in the stats, but it still shows the attempt to rate episodes without seeing them).

That's one reason I asked about what happens when viewership for a series significantly drops off. If only people who really like a show are still watching after awhile, it seems like its score would be artificially inflated, even if someone wasn't trying to. Still dunno how that works. Smile

But c'mon, something is off when Villainess outdoes Frieren! Laughing
