OK, nice to know Comic-Con International will stay in San Diego despite the rumor of Comic Con International threaten to leave San Diego over the issue of hotel price gouging

Maybe the city of San Diego promised to work on the problem. Don't know the legalities, if price gouging is considered illegal. The capacity of the venue, is probably a far bigger problem for the convention, one that the city of San Diego will have to solve in the near future, lest the convention moves. Much like what Otakon had to do. |

When it comes price gouging whether it's shopping, food, or recovering from disaster. It's what drives many Americans like you and me very crazy (yes, I hate getting ripped off when it comes to overpriced stuff, but so does price gouging). Regarding the part I bolded and underlined and color highlighted in green: Oh yeah, I agreed with you on that, given the anime/manga fandom has grown for the last 5-10 years from what I observed, and the acceptance of other what used to be niche or nerdy like K-pop, K-drama, webtoons/manhwa, or watching any TV dramas from another country where English is not spoken (ie: Nordic Noir dramas for example, Taiwanese and Mainland Chinese dramas have seen huge growth in viewership in the US thanks to streaming like Netflix), or anything else you can think of. Yeah, those have gotten so big hence you'll likely need a much bigger venue to accommodate those ever growing fandoms, and anime/manga fandom are no exception to this. I remember KCON LA back in 2012 (which ANN was at one time did a ticket giveaway) started with Irvine Meadows/Verizon Wireless Ampitheater (which was later demolished in 2016), then 2013-2014, KCON LA upgrade it's venue to LA Memorial Sports Arena (which has now since then demolished and replaced in 2016 by BMO Stadium), then since 2015-present, KCON LA is now having concert and convention at Staples Center/Crypto.com Arena for the concert and LA Convention Center for the convention part. And before you asked: yes, the attendees at KCON has grown a lot over the years since it's 2012 debut, and you factor in the mainstream popularity of K-pop thanks to groups and acts like BTS, and Blackpink for that. As a matter of fact, K-pop fandom has gotten so big and that include KCON, and this is the first time I've seen this, but KCON LA has for the first time got a US TV broadcast on the CW and hosted by Awkwafina, and this is unprecedented and I don't like beating a dead horse, but I've never seen J-pop nor any Asian pop music getting this level of TV coverage in the US. K-pop was the first to do this, that's why it's pretty unprecedented to me and probably to fans of J-pop that resent K-pop. So yeah, like K-pop, I expect a lot of fandom in the US whether it's anime/manga, video game, webtoon/manhwa, American comic book/graphic novels etc... Those fandom are getting really big and will increase every year, and all fandom convention including KCON are going to need bigger venue to accommodate the ever-growing fandom. |

I’ve been going to Comic-con since 2016 (not counting 2020_2021 due to COVID) and this year is the first year we managed to get badges for all 4 days. Getting badges is hard. Comic-con is huge, I’m not even sure 4 days is enough to see everything, but hotels are insane. The cheapest rates I found for a known brand hotel was like $900 for the 4 days.
I think I’ll just going to drive back and forth, it’ll be much cheaper. |
