Episode 1
I didn't mind that. Will this be the first Gundam title I watch to completion? Could be, could be... |

Don't really like it, the all-CG MS look really wrong and out of place, and their movement's very stiff.

I have seen a Gundam series to completion and I really liked what I saw and heard here. I can't think of any anime original series that would bother to create manga key images but there were 5 or 6 here that made me think "that's a cover somewhere for something".
The show did hold on them for a second or two but when the composition is this good, I'll give them a pass. They're doing it to show off, not to save money. Upon rewatch which I did in the middle of writing this, this time subbed, I think they copied some classic covers because I think the spotlight one was from Lupin. Others were less obvious, even if "inspired by Blade Runner" is a good starting point. I love the soundtrack, the writing and the acting in both languages. I particularly loved the idea that they did a double "fall into the cockpit" start even if the how for the main one hasn't been fully explained yet. As long as they don't fall into the "let's stall for some reason" Gundam plot trap to stretch out the scenario, I'll be thrilled with the result. |

The second episode almost looks like an entirely different show (I'm guessing they were emulating the classic style for that nostalgia trip?), and even if there was little MS movement for most of the shots, they look SO much better in 2D (unless that was really well integrated CG, other than the obvious shots). Unfortunately the writing was certainly weaker, a very exposition-heavy episode, like they were rushing to explain to the viewers how Zeon has Gundams now. Lot of fanservice cameos and namedropping too.

I am just guessing here, but I assume episode 2 was shown before episode 1 in the movie. I heard something about the movie presentation being different than the series.

So episode 3 aired today, and that means next week is episode 4 which is the end of the movie adaptation, so next week something big has to happen, right?
We learn bits about Amate's life and have a theory here. We learned she lives with her mom who works for the government, but her father is no where to be found. And my guess he is someone important, probably piloted the GQ in the past. |
