Ohh, considering that he worked on one of the best episodes of Cyberpunk Edgerunners and SSSS.Gridman, I have a feeling we're going to get something stylistically different from Imaishi's tenure.

Surprised they didn't announce this sooner. Considering the first season brought people back to the game after that disastrous launch.

Ah, so that's why we're getting the bluray now.

Makes sense considering they're still doing patches for the game (probably because Edgerunners managed to salvage its reputation)

Nice to see it getting a stand alone sequel series.

It don't know if Edgerunners managed to salvage 2077's reputation, while I never played the game myself, I remember when it came out that it sold millions of copies, but the Xbox One and PS4 versions were practically unplayable, but I never knew if they managed to fix those versions, kind of what happened with No Man's Sky. I do remember that after Edgerunners came out, they added some content based on the anime to 2077. But yeah, 2077 is still popular and it still receives new content, even the Nintendo Switch 2 port is one of the few third-party games that managed to sell well.

I do know, and it did. The conversation around the game prior to Edgerunners was about how buggy and incomplete the game was (even ignoring the versions of the game that had to be refunded), with the developers even talking extensively about how they begged for more time because the game wasn't going to be done when executives wanted. And we're not talking about them wanting a couple months for polish, they said they needed a couple years to actually get the game feature complete. But then Edgerunners came out and convinced people that maybe the game was okay

To add to this, the anime actually made it go back to the top of the Steam top sellers charts for several weeks straight.

The original was fine but not my favorite Trigger work but I’m not sure we really need more. It was a self-contained story and everything felt resolved. This feels like they’re only making more anime because it helped save the game.

The Tabletop and game have already had many western comics and novels(even one that focused on Trauma Team and another on Cyberpsychos). I imagine this will be a completely new cast. I do hope it can still suprise as people will now be expecting a tragic ending(which even the tabletop creator mentions is the most in character option)

It makes perfect sense to use the format to explore different ideas, and I'm glad the description makes it abundantly apparent that is what's happening.

Sounds like great news. It's a vast world, built out of decades of RPG and a video game. I think it's a perfect setting for various stories, if the world of Cyberpunk is used properly.

Cyberpunk is a rich, and maddeningly prescient (because it’s obvious this is all really bad but we seem to be using it as a blueprint) setting and there are so many stories to be told in it outside of the initial legends like Morgan Blackhand, Johnny Silverhand, Adam Smasher, and others.

So even with an annoyance that this isn’t the project I wanted Trigger to be doing that has been rumored, it’s something I’m definitely looking forward to.

I figure the anime was too popular and the setting too rich not to do another standalone season. Hopefully the quality is on par with the first season.
