Thank you. Some truly interesting stuff here.BTW while the Evil Eye is known in Europe it is also widely known in North Africa and the Middle East. I always assumed it originated there and then spread to Europe. However it may have originated elsewhere and then spread.

A big ol' spoiler warning at the top of the article might be a good idea for the folks who are only watching the anime.

Oh, that's a bummer. Glad you said something, though; stopped me from clicking through to check it out. Aren't many anime these days I'm invested enough in to badly want to avoid spoilers, but Dan da Dan's certainly among those... |

Thanks for the interesting article! I learned the story of Konnaki jiji from Kitaro as well, it is especially neat to see how much Mizuki seems to have inspired the designs, he was truly a master of horror.

Ah, this is the yokai of part two of Dan da dan, not part two of a series of articles on the yokai of Dan da dan. No need to go looking for part one.

Equally deadly as in not deadly at all because Mongolian Death Worms don't exist? Sand boas are pretty harmless to humans, unless you let an infected bite go untreated or something. Getting bitten in the first place is unlikely unless you're handling them carelessly. |

Always good to get into the nitty-gritty of yokai details, including where you can find some Joseph Campbell overlap in monsters from different cultures.

Thanks! It’s not listed in the Encyclopedia page for the anime (which does list this part two article, so I didn’t check the manga encyclopedia page). anime#34211 But I also didn’t notice that was the page for part two of the anime, though the yokai article isn’t mentioned on the part one anime page, either. Yokai part one is listed on the manga page…. |

This was very informative!
"a human being was sometimes sealed up within a pillar." - Dang, I'd hate to go out like that. |
