Didn't care much for the first season (felt like a step down from the first adaptation) but that soundtrack was amazing, glad to see Pekin coming back.

I have to agree about it being a lesser adaptation, even if it was great to see the new content later on.
The first anime felt a bit more polished in comparison, whereas the new one could be a little inconsistent with it's animation sometimes. Plus, Ami Koshimizu's performance in the new anime felt like she was almost over-acting, whereas in the original she was much more subtle and nuanced.

The visual strongly suggests that the next season will at least cover novels 5 (which has been adapted before) and 6 (which hasn't). Particularly looking forward to seeing a character from the latter make his animation debut.
Those two and maybe an entry or two from vol. 7 (a side story collection, for anime-only viewers) would make a fine single-cour season. If they go double-cour again, will be interested to see how far they go, since vol. 8 and 9 are a two-part arc but I can't see them taking up a full cour on their own.

It being a remake, doesn't absolve it from criticism. We've had plenty of remakes over the last few years that ended up being way worse than the original adaptations, despite being more faithful to the source material.

Its resource that could have gone on to something else, I would have rather they find another source (or do an original story) with a focus on micro economy instead of largely re threading ground in a less competent manner.
Plus iirc there's a sequel story too, they could have adapted that too.

Yeah the animation was pretty inconsistent at times and the character designs melted a decent amount of times, which is kinda consistent with other passione projects

spice and wolf didn't get a full adaptation so why would they adapt the sequel instead.

If it was up to me, there would be at least 10 remakes airing each season.

Having been late to the party and watching both the original and redo seasons last year, I don't see what y'all are on about as they seemed fairly close in quality. One place better, another slightly less good and given how the original ended and the redo began, including more of the source material, I'd say the redo is better overall. Couldn't be more hyped for more and hopefully the side-stories after that!

I've wanted new S&W episodes for a while now. I'm glad they're finally coming. Admittedly, I don't see much of a point to rebooting something and keeping the art style and content so indistinguishable from the original that it looks like you're just broadcasting a hq upscale, but if that's what it took to actually get unanimated stories animated, it was worth it.

It would have been nice for this version to be better then the original but that is a much higher bar to clear then most people realize I think.
The remake largely did a very good job for people new to the franchise and the changes they did make largely just brining it in line with the later books or at least a massive fan theory about the books
that the books we are reading are holo writing down the stories of her and Lawrence for their daughter after Lawrence's eventual death.
I think it is absolutely wonderful that we got the remake even if ot isnt always as good as the original. There heart is in the right place and they are largely doing a great job brining us what we have been asking for almost 20 years now
Also FYI to ann wolf and parchment is much more a sequel series to spice and wolf then a spin off without spoilers

100% agree. the original's ending in particular was spectacularly limp to finish a 24 episode anime, ESPECIALLY for the year it originally came out. I could understand liking the shadows or color gradient of the original more, but animation issues? complete nonsense.

I had the opposite reaction, for me I feel like you could really tell how much Ami Koshimizu and Jun Fukuyama had grown since the first go around.
