Imagine it will be like just about every other Gundam recut of a movie/OVA series: largely pointless, but we at least get a new OP out of it

The recut isn't anything new. It was already done back in 2023.

It's weird they're giving it the Re 0096 treatment although the story's still unfinished.

That's kind of the thing with movies these days: just splice them up and release them as a season of anime.

During the break in seasons for G-Witch. It was part of the Gundam Next Future x Nichigo slot at 5pm. Hathaway was cut into four episodes airing January 15, 22, 29 and February 5. Thunderbolt followed on Februaru 12, 29, 26th with three episode and Narrative capped it off with four episodes on March 5, 12, 19, 26th.
If you're worried if anything new was added, don't be. They filled with extensive credits for Hathaway and whatnot. It wasn't a pretty airing.

They're not. At least with the TV airing they cleaned up animation and whatnot from the OVA (and added pointless recap fluff to pad out the episodes). This isn't doing any of that.
