This is the classic, 'I really wanted to love this, but...' anime. I love the character designs, especially Luna, even chibi Luna, but I agree about mouthless Ootori, so weird and takes me out of any of the scenes. All throughout the series I was waiting for something to happen. I SO wanted to see more of Luna's parents, especially her Mom, or some other demi-human to widen things out in this world, but nope, nada. I gave the series an overall GOOD, but I feel there was so much potential that was left scattered on the floor and kicked under the sofa, too bad....

I've been reading and enjoying the manga. The anime doesn't work as well for me, though it's not bad. I think it might have worked better as half length episodes.
The mouthless look also did not work at all when animated. It's fine in the manga, because you don't hear him speak and everything is static, but hearing a voice come out of a mouthless face is just off putting. And it's not like he's not supposed to be human, which I can imagine people might think in this setting.

Bro's lack of a mouth that he only grows in when he has to say something emotional and/or meaningful was one of the best things about this show. I dunno what y'all are on about talking like it's weird or a negative. It's just as iconic to the show's aesthetic as Luna turning big and small basically being canon. Which is also awesome, if that wasn't clear.
Instead of being wimps about peak character design/utilization, if you want to critique this show you guys should be asking the real questions, such as: Why the heck was this school making their students run a culture festival in the middle of their summer break, when they should be enjoying non-school life...?

I found it weird they set up the "mythical creatures are real" setting and did nothing with it. There were a few other students who had tiny hints that they were also mythical, but it didn't matter at all.

We can have a difference of opinion on a mouthless MC and anything else that bothers you about how others see this series anytime and I honor your stand, but if you need to name call people who don’t see things exactly the same way I hope you understand some may not take you seriously. Nuance is a better cudgel.

I never expected Interviews With Monster Girls to continually be reflected on as something I should have been more sympathetic to (even though I dropped it at most halfway through), but this is probably the third time now with a decently recent show. (Of course, that isn't a romcom, but not like that matters with how nonexistent it is in here; seen better mutual affection out of Koupen-chan.)

I thought that the way I wrote the post made it at least a bit clear that I was being partially hyperbolic about the whole thing, but I suppose it's easy to forget how some things can be read online without clear intent.
I wasn't really using the word "wimp" with the intent of name-calling anyone, but rather as a reflection of the type of perspective taken to be dismissive of what I found to be a rather charming character trait. Of course I understood not everyone would see it the same way, I was just trying to encourage giving it a look from another angle.
But as you say, perhaps my choice in language got ahead of me there.
