At least the leak said they were doing multiple games, and Nintendo probably isn't crazy enough to have two games simultaneously in development that are Star Fox 1 again

A remake of Star Fox? Wow, that's never happened before!

I can’t think of any other franchise that has been kept afloat solely by remaking the same game over and over again. Also those realistic animal designs just look off especially front facing Fox.

They can’t all be like FZero and Earthbound rereleasing their older entries decades after their most recent entry |

We're never going to get Krystal in another Star Fox game ever again, are we?

Given how much success Nintendo has had over the years with their “handcraft” visual styles, I was really hoping the next Starfox game would be styled after puppets — at least the character, but ideally everything — just imagine an Arwing flying around an expansive set, suspended by wires. The animal designs they went with are fine, I think, just… not very memorable. Save for Pigma, whose model seems *much* more detailed and expressive than the others. More disappointing to me is the area design which just… does not look appreciably better than Zero. Just kind of… generic terrain and effects. Definitely looks like the kind of game that’d run just fine on a Switch 1. |

And of course, Starfox 64 was already remade for the 3DS, and Starfox Zero was another remake of 64...and 64 itself is just a remake of Starfox 1. So at this point, I think it's safe to say that Starfox is the single most remade video game of all time.
This looks great and all, but wow, why is Nintendo so terrified to make a sequel in this franchise? |

Ouroboros is a Star Fox character at this point. I'm starting to wonder if the upcoming coming Ocarina of Time remake will be a remake of 3DS game, which was a remake of the N64. |

The new prologue cutscene shows that there is a movie inside the SNES/64 setup but I don´t trust Nintendo with adaptations after 4 decades of doing it wrong. The Twilight Princess manga is as good as these got. The last SNES/64 remake was 2 gens back on the 3DS, so this makes sense, as Zero should have never existed and is now clearly quarantined on the Wii U.
Dragon Quest 1-3 have more remakes. |

Seeing the original SNES StarFox running at Walmart back in the day was mind-blowing, and the series has never looked as good as it does on this new game, but the precedent that is being set - that Nintendo is using the Mario movies as a vehicle for advertising their game reboots (to kids, specifically) is rather disturbing to me. I immediately noticed the last-minute pivot in marketing material that the Princess Peach game had on the Switch, the shift in gameplay direction (and character design) hasn't really wowed me with Donkey Kong....
There was that article/developer mention a while back about dev cycles for newer Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy titles being so extensive now that children in Japan don't grow up giving a shit about JRPGs anymore as much as Pokemon or something that is ever-present in their lives. It makes me wonder if part of this push for "Minions Movies" is Nintendo leaning a lot of their new games and marketing really really young and spamming reboots left & right so as not to wind up in the sort of spot Square has. I just get this creeping feeling as an older gaming hobbyist at this point, that Nintendo is quickly going creatively bankrupt, and we're about to see some really weird shite in the next mainline Zelda game so as to make it fall in step with whatever their weird live film is going to be doing.... It's StarFox 64 again so it's not like it's going to be a bad game like ZERO was, it's just left me very tired after all these years and there's barely anything left to be excited about in it. The only thing that younger me wanted was a compelling reason to "live" in those worlds longer, and the irony is that even though the newer Donkey Kong and Mario Kart games are much more open, they just feel so pointless to me now, where Sonic CW and stuff like Pseudoregalia has completely ignited my inspiration. |

While I don't like the idea of Star Fox 64 being remade for the fourth time, though I'd say SF64 3D was more of a remaster, however, you could also say that SF64 itself was a pseudo-reboot of the original Star Fox for the Super NES, I have to say that the game does look kind of nice, it sure seems like a weird choice for Nintendo to go for a more realistic depiction of Fox and his friends, instead of the usual stylized cartoony look, especially after Fox's appearence in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie where he looked more like his self from previous games. I honestly don't know how Nintendo is going to market this game, don't know if long time players who have played previous Star Fox games on other Nintendo consoles are going to play another remake of SF64, and I don't know if younger audiences who got introduced to Fox thanks to the Mario Galaxy Movie are going to jump to this game considering how different Fox looks.
Another part of me wonders if Nintendo chose to remake SF64 again just because it's easier to rework a game that already has a solid foundation, I can imagine they put a lot more effort into making a game with more realistic graphics just to test the Switch 2's capabilities, from what I remember, games like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza started their development on the original Switch, is this new Star Fox game the first major Nintendo game develop for the Switch 2 from the ground up, even if it is a remake?
This new Star Fox remake does seem to include some extra features, it doesn't look like a major remake like the recent Resident Evil ones, or a complete reimagining like the Final Fantasy VII Remake Project, but it doesn't feel like a simple remaster either. So I wouldn't mind if a hypothetical Ocarina of Time remake goes in a similar direction like this Star Fox game. If I had to guess how an OoT remake would look like, I'd say it should go for an artsyle inspired on the original game's promotional art, the 3DS remake kind of look a bit like it but they can improve it, I can also imagine it having full voice acting, maybe some quality-of-life improvements on the gameplay, a remastered soundtrack, new areas/dungeons/quests, etc. |

Given how Katt looks in the new game that's probably for the best Krystal was spared I'm not really a fan of the style of this.. It reminds me of Ugly Sonic. It's like Nintendo actually did "Hire That Man" from the meme of ultrarealistic Mario graphics. No style. Hyper realism... not a fan. Also I guess this explains why Star Fox was in the Mario Galaxy movie... |

I always wondered if there were people who unironically wanted a Nintendo game from an established series with realistic graphics, I believe Zelda is the game that some people wanted to go for a realistic art direction, or I don't know if I'm maybe misunderstading some of the reactions towards Nintendo's Spaceworld 2000 presentation that featured Adult Link fighting Ganondorf and the original reveal trailer for Wind Waker, and then the first reveal and reactions to Twilight Princess. Honestly, I believe the only Nintendo series that are better suited to a realistic look are Metroid and F-Zero. As for Fox and his friends' new look, I guess they wanted to distinguish the game from previous entries in the series, I know some say they're paying a homage to the original puppets they used to illustrate the original Star Fox gam, and I can see the inspiration, I think Nintendo chose a realistic look just because they wanted to experiment with a different art direction.
I actually think it's more of a coincidence, Miyamoto has stated that it was the Illuminatiion staff's idea to include Fox, and maybe he and the rest of Nintendo said yes just because they were working on this new game. I mean, there's some corporate synergy behind it, but maybe in a concidential way. |
